I’ve tried voice to text apps of several brands.
Went through the “training “ of the apps and all that.

Apparently “Highland Hillbilly “ is a dialect neither they or SIRI can manage.

FB friends tell me to just “speak” my posts instead of typing them.
If I did that, I’d never be out of FB jail.

:D

I don’t disagree and I use a landline. Normally, using speaker mode vastly improves my understanding. I constantly have to request a native English speaker and to tell the Indians I cannot understand them. I have to tell the script-readers to please slow down.

I’m not a technophobe and I use a limited number of devices as needed. I just dislike them, for the most part.

The voice-to-text was helpful. I really hate the voice menu options. They don’t understand me. However, that means I get shunted to a real human, eventually.

I’m starting to wonder where it is that I belong.

I hear ya. It’s still my nature.

Our elected state GOP is going to sue the Governor yet again. We still have a 1-judge majority in the State Supreme Court and perhaps this time, the Republican legislature will take it all the way to SCOTUS.

Sad when it is the old ladies who lead the way against tyranny, isn’t it?

Yep it sucks. I can’t read lips so they pull down their masks so I can understand what they’re saying.

I was afraid of that happening. I have some vocal issues that mainly impact using the voice menu options at corporations.

BUT: the voice-to-text picked me up perfectly. The voice recognition on my WORD does, too. No training needed, either. I was amazed.

I mostly needed the app to *hear* my husband and to *hear* videos on the computer. I discovered by accident that speaker mode on my landline increases volume to the point where I can understand people.

I was happy when the hearing issue resolved, though. I was totally deaf for about 2 days and partially impaired to the point of needing the app for another 3-4. The weather changed, the pressure rose and it was over, but it was depressing while it lasted.

Will NOT use SIRI or ALEXA. I cannot imagine what the future holds, tech-wise as well as politically, but I hope I’m old enough to not have to find out.

Yes. Especially if you use Anglo-Saxon expletives! ;)

Pushing 0 repeatedly also works.

I get it about long talks on the phone. I’m grateful that my brother is near mom and checks in daily. Otherwise I’d probably either go mad or just drive 700 miles and move in with her for the duration. Hubby and I just made the trip this week and it did us all good to just be together, toast dad, and go out for dinner in a quiet outdoor spot. I’m sure your mom is very grateful for your presence in any form you can provide it. Hang in there friend. We are in trying times.

Sadly, she and I are polar opposites.
What I find interesting, she finds creepy or weird.
I love all animals.
She despises them all.
I was a daddy’s girl and my sister was her darling.
My sister moved a hundred miles away and hasn’t been up here since my dad’s funeral.
My 85 year old mom has to drive down there if she even wants to see her the grand-kids.
She doesn’t call, she sends videos of the kids and my mom is on a tiny iPhone 4 and technologically impaired.
I hate that me, the kid she really didn’t favor is all she has now.
On top of that, my aunt, her best friend, broke crazy and didn’t talk her to her for 8 months.
They’re speaking now but it’s still strained and I doubt they’ll ever regain the closeness they once had.
So mom is stuck with me.
I feel so bad for that, I can hardly bear it.
Also, she has no one to help her with house/yard stuff unless she pays the gougers who half ass everything and I wind up going and making it right.
I’m not young, I have pain issues from arthritis and muscle spasms but I go up and work until I’m in agony, and never let on.
I’m taking my dad’s place, at this point and honestly, I’m a poor substitute.
She HATES asking for help and I reckon even more, asking me for it.
But I’m cursed to being really handy because dad raised me to do everything from woodwork to mechanical stuff.
When I go up and do things that are simple to me, she is amazed by it.
I bought her a home tool kit but I’m the one that uses it because my own tool kit is pretty heavy to lug up there.
I can live with all that but trying to convince her this is NOT the Spanish Flu or Black Plague is wearing me down.
She’s positive that I’m gonna “get it and die” any minute now.
She listens to the lying talking heads on TV and every time they jack up the paranoia and panic, she reacts.
I just started getting vicious hives every night from the sheer stress of it all but she thinks they’re really some dire disease.
I want to be everything to everyone but I’m just a puny weirdo that generally baffles her.
I feel so inadequate that it’s dragging me down to a very dark place.

I want to be the person she needs me to be.

I feel like I’m failing.

“Our elderly citizens are really getting hammered physically and emotionally.”

Really? Because the old people I know, and I, have been through worse than this.

“Because, despite being weakened by his heart condition, he is still bellicose and honestly, I’m not really big enough to defend him from any ass kickings he might invite.”

God made man, but Sam Colt made them equal.

“I feel like I’m failing.”

God said “Honor thy father and thy mother.” You are doing that. You can hold your head up and look anyone in the eye.

“I feel like I’m not enough.”

We’re not required to be world-beating heroes.

We just have to show up and do our duty.

As a great man said, “Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more. You should never wish to do less.”

Sounds to me like you have that covered.
