We need to define our numbers more clearly. Does “effective” mean you don’t get even the sniffles from Corona, or does “effective” mean with the vaccine you at least don’t get a serious illness. I suspect Fauci is using the first definition, when what we need in practical terms is the second definition.
The same for the durability of immunity. I don’t care if I get reinfected with China Syndrome Virus in five years and it’s just the sniffles because I have partial immunity. I expect more precision in communications from professionals.

True — I should have clarified that I meant mutations that would render the vaccine ineffective. I was aware of the mutations you mention; but, I was thinking that the vaccine would still work on them all. That could be wrong.
