I read a book titled The Lost Command when I was young. It was also titled The New Centurions.
It was about French Paratroop Officers in Vietnam, Algeria and France.
They are captured by the communists in Vietnam.
They are forced to take part in self-examination sessions where they must confess their sins against communism to their fellow Officers and the communist cadre.
They are beaten and starved if they don’t participate.
The French Officers fight back by making outrageous and false statements about their “crimes”.
It became a game to see who could come up with the biggest exaggerations.
