Very sad. I’ve been to both Stonewall Jackson sites: the one where his body is buried, and the one where his ARM is buried. No tourists at the second one.

And I’m a Californian—just a Civil War buff.

Not quite sure what to make of "Manning" up. When this crap started at Charlottesville in the summer of 2017, it was obvious to me this would be the outcome. No amount of crying that "it is all history" was going to appease the Democratic Socialist SJWs. In the South, most of these CW statues were erected in city centers/ central business districts. With the advent of the 1950s the white populations migrated to the suburbs leaving the urban districts to the non-white populations. Whites ceded/ surrendered the urban center territories to non-whites, including their ancestors CW statues. It was only natural that over time the elected municipal officials would be DemonRats.

Destruction of the CW statues is right out of the Islamic and Communist historic playbooks. Interestingly, there are 2 instances in Eastern European nations where, after the collapse of the Iron Curtain, they chose to collect. preserve, and display in public parks Communist statues erected during the Cold War by the USSR, so to proclaim to their ancestors - "Never Forget" history.

If these Confederate statues were really all that important to Southerners, they should have seen the light and acted proactively, i.e., did what the Eastern Europeans did in Budapest and Sofia. Of course the intent there was to never let fade from memory the horrors of communism. Southerners could have raised funds to buy private property to pay for the relocation of those statues there if they really wanted to preserve the "Lost Cause".

The CW was tragic. 6-700K men perished too soon over 4 years. It is the historical tragedy of the human condition in which that war was fought. And yet, the U.S. can lift its head and say that it ended chattel slavery in the Western Hemisphere.

This CW business is personal to me. I am the offspring of a wonderful marriage between a Maine Yankee paratrooper who ended up in the South courtesy of the Korean War and an Alabama Rebel farmer's daughter. One branch of my southern family tree lost 9 sons during the war. The symbolism of the 2nd Day at Gettysburg of the stand by the 20th Maine under Col. Joshua L. Chamberlain at Little Round Top against the 15th Alabama (Col. William C. Oates) is not lost on me. I will always remember but have no desire to glorify it nor dwell on it. Let us move foreward and make a better history for this nation.

The statues that have come down are in purple Or blue areas which are controlled either by northern interlopers or black majorities or both

Every major city in the south is black majority

And every cosmopolitan...for lack of better word...southern town if not black large plurality or majority is laden with non southerners

No city anywhere in the south is predominate conservative

The statue removal has gone on for quite a while and it does not just encompass our Southern figures. No, get this: the City of Pittsburgh decided to remove a statue to native son Stephen Foster— the composer of Americana classics, many if not most were written in a Progressive manner in empathy of the state of the downtrodden in the 1840s and 50s. Why? Because the statue had Foster seated with a “black man looking agrarian person in overalls with a and a sheaf of wheat”. Amazing they missed the underlying sculptor’s “Hammer and Sickle” working man’s reference of that time- it was very politically correct. Foster continuously kept in his writings the notions of the hard times, the working people and the rapid destructive progress, and anti-slavery as well (Angelina Baker song- incredible lyrics). The native son of Pittsburgh removed by-— neo Marxists nihilists.

The “playbook” for the history rewrite, using black/white relations which obamaumao reopened all of the divisions- poured salt in long healed cooperatively settled wounds— the playbook is straight out of 1920s-30’s Comintern directives and organizing. Custis held the property until 1883, when he sold it to the fedgov for $150K as a military cemetery properly designated and tendered as such. Now that is leadership and doggedness, and it was also a very important legal point of private property- the case is an amazing read in the 5-4 decision.
