So sorry that this happened with your dad. But it's not only the caretakers who should be praised. You yourself deserve some big props for handling everything as well as you did.
My mom's condition was similar in some ways after her decline worsened. The facility would call & say that as soon as late afternoon rolled around, she would start talking about killing herself.
Just on a human level, I'm not saying I want Dementia Joe to get to that point, but if (God forbid) that ticket wins, I think Harris will very quickly make the idea a moot point.

Agree they will “pull a Torricelli” as you say but it won’t be Harris at the top. Bank on it being Hillary (I beat him once I can beat him again!). Bernie’s folks will go Ape-Shout but as always Bernie himself will slink away. This will likely happen right after he fumbles the debate. However they may have him amped up like they did in the last debate of the primary where he held his own - admittedly not against Trump though. Everyone is certain Biden won’t hold it together during the debate but should he still be standing and even minimally coherent the press will declare him the overwhelming winner of the debate.

Dementia can actually present in a variety of ways and advance at different rates. Biden has a high degree of mobility, some dementia cases come along with parkinson's symptoms, but he has none of that shuffling gait of a Parkinson's patient. Bicycling in a mask with reduced peripheral vision is no small feat for an older person in reduced health, and I'm sure those things are being pointed out in the background by his staff.
Biden had two prior brain surgeries, and once you start cutting up there, there's no telling what happened along the way back then that is impacting what is going on now.
