Personally I think the liberals by claiming they will take such outrageous steps are trying to force Trump into saying/doing something they can then use against him.

Yes. The Senate has rules about how it handles impeachment. Other business must be dropped.
Yes they could change the rules, but that's another thing that would have to be done first.

The idea that the proceedings of the Senate do not fall within the purview of the Speaker of the House is a little bit over-complicated for them.

Well that’s the beauty of it for the Dem’s...it doesn’t interfere with the state investigation. In lesser jobs and situations many folks lose their jobs while under investigation and court trial; they might be exonerated in the end but they won’t get their jobs back.
A quick impeachment and removal of Trump doesn’t solve the issue for the Dem’s since Mike Pence could take over and then still nominate a supreme court justice in the closing days of the year!
They would have to try and remove Pence as well!
Romney will vote to convict.
It seems that the only logic would be to give an excuse for the Republican traitors. And Romney would be the obvious collaborator. If so, he should be made to pay a very heavy price, because he just destroyed America.
