Maybe, if the homeowner came out onto his front lawn armed with a firearm, BEFORE there was any physical attack on the home (i.e., rock throwing, windows being broken, etc.).
However, once rocks start flying through the windows that is a direct physical assault against YOU, and not just damage to the house, and self-defense should be warranted.
Somewhere in the story there needs to be some reference to “last night”, “last week”, or some such answer to the “when” question.
