Short Version: people wearing masks are the reason pop-tarts come with instructions.
Masks not discarded in bio-hazard containers are one thing, but the spread is caused by the wearing of the mask. Your breathing is designed to expel harmful bacteria and viruses - wearing a mask for more than a few hours helps concentrate the virus and the lowered oxygen intake acerbates and accelerates the concentration.
There are a host of other unpleasant side effects from continual mask wearing which lowers your oxygen intake from 93-95 to 80-85 - cancer being one of them.
Washed masks are even less helpful than ones right out of the box as washing destroys any filtering abilities.
Honestly, people who feel ill staying home for 3-5 days would stop more virus spread than a porous mask.
Anyone who thinks wearing any old piece of s#it across your face will prevent you from getting a contagious virus is just plain stupid.
Okay, I asked the CDC and they said yes, they do work.

“Conclusions: Available evidence from RCTs is equivocal as to whether or not wearing face masks in community settings results in a reduction in clinically- or laboratory-confirmed viral respiratory infections.”

Preprint, unpublished survey of previous studies that openly admitted the studies looked at were full of confounding issues and not directly related to SARS-CoV-2.
Yes, you can pull a random quote completely out of context from an unpublished article written in part by someone studying at a veterinary college, but the problem is that I can also read.
1) Viral proteins denature in open air.
2) The primary vector for SARS-CoV-2 transmission is respiratory droplets.
3) Masks (particularly multi-layer masks) reduce the volume and range of respiratory droplets.
4) If droplets cannot reach a vulnerable host, they cannot infect them.
5) Something which obstructs the expulsion of respiratory droplets from infected persons will reduce the risk of transmission to those around them.
This isn’t that difficult to understand. Properly made properly worn masks effectively reduce the risk of transmission. Not to zero, but a significant reduction in risk leads to a reduction in spread, which leaves fewer paths to the most vulnerable who will become severely ill or even die if they become infected.
“pull a random quote”
The quote was, precisely, the Summary.
Hardly random, Karen.
Obviously, Evers didn’t teach ,math when he was a teacher.
5.58 million-——1 in 10 sick would be 558 thousand ill in Wisconsin alone.
He is a LIAR.
I was just at the grocery saturday, and I don’t remember anybody without a mask on.
We have not been required to wear masks outdoors, so I think people feel a bit less put out. On the other hand, I’m in a relatively high-infection county, when I was out in the boonies over the summer, nobody was wearing masks, they had only had a dozen cases so they really didn’t see the need.
Just about everybody I know that got covid was wearing “a freaking mask”.
The WI state’s website today says there have been 232,296 confirmed cases. 2050 deaths.
