Talk about shooting yourself on the foot. Norway’s economy is dependent on oil.
Exactly, most people have no idea. The infrastructure is no where near what it needs to be to handle everyone having an electric vehicle.
There is NO WAY they’re going to fix this within 10 years. It would be a monumental achievement.
I’m glad those engines are equipped with the necessary emissions control devices.
That’s like the AOCism “We don’t need farms. People get food from the supermarket!”
Prior to WWII, the department store and, I think, RR Express in Washington, DC had electric delivery trucks. At least some had flat non-inflatable tires. When the suburbs expanded greatly during the war, they became impracticable. Electric taxis might work for down-town London.

Coal has not been the major source of electricity for nearly a decade. Natural gas is the dominate form now. Nuclear is only 19% and renewables nearly equal it at 17% of total US generation of power actually used. Since natural gas plants are vastly cleaner for the air than diesel or gasoline engines on every measurable emission (NOx, SOx, CO, 2.5PM) and renewables generate zero so does nuclear this means that nation wide a EV is using at least 75% power that has between zero and ppm level emissions vs tail pipes blowing smoke and fumes. Power plants even th one of them have air scrubbers thanks to the EPA car and trucks do not it’s that simple.

The solar panels on my room make 140 kilowatt hours per day in the summer and 90 in the winter on a daily average. A model 3 Tesla my next vehicle needs gross 250 watthours per mile or 1kWh will move it 4 miles from plug to wheels. This means that my solar panels are making 560 miles in summer and 360 miles in winter on a 30 day till by average PER DAY. 85% of ALL Americans commute less than 40 miles round trip per day. My home never once has used all the power from the panels in a given day , the power meters always runs backwards for most of the day here in sunny North Texas we get 230+ days of full sun and the panels even make power under ambient light I have seen as high as 2 kilowatts under clouds it’s a 15 kw system.
A model 3 LR has a 320 mile range which is comparable to the 400 mile range of my S60 Volvo it will replace. My bladder doesn’t make it 300 miles so it’s moot with 250kw supercharger plugs in the interstates a 20 minutes stop every 5 hours of driving is perfectly fine by me.
You’re aware of the toxicity of solar panels right? They’re a problem to dispose of. How old are yours? When will you need to replace them?
...and you live in Texas? I guarantee you that your numbers wouldn’t come close here in Michigan. Especially during the winter. The UK may not be Michigan but it isn’t a sunny area either. You’re also assuming that the general UK public would be able to afford it. It ain’t the USA.
Solar, like wind, is nowhere close to being a generic solution.
Most of the contents of a coal fired plant is equipment used to clean the output. We have solar in Kentucky, but it is a tiny percent of the power and always will be. And Solar is not clean. The Cells have a life span of about 20 years and they are far from environmentally friendly. In fact, our Solar exists in KY right now solely as an experiment. We’re even selling “shares” to customers that want to be a part of “solar” without having to actually install it at their home. I’ve seen the video power output readouts that show output changing for individual arrays as a cloud goes over them.
Solar and wind are not environmentally friendly for a variety of reasons. In my state, coal and natural gas are the source with a bit of hydroelectric, and a couple of solar farms for testing purposes.
And don’t kid yourself about cars and trucks. Compare the emissions of a modern KIA to the emissions of a 1963 Ford Falcon.
