The way the Redskin team name came about was far from a slur but that has been lost in history. I wish I could remember the story, but it was told from the POV of an Indian years ago.

My former next door neighbor is a big Cleveland Indians fan and he’s 100% native.
The answer for a new name is obvious. The Cleveland Steamers.
I couldn’t care less because I’ve stopped watching televised sports, and you should too. Every eyeball and every click on enemy media fuels the machine that’s destroying the country.

What is the pronunciation for the all of the various “indigenous” native’s word(s) for the broad entirety of the geography we call India?
The name Indians was originally a tribute to one of their outstanding players who was an American Indian. And the Washington Redskins name was not considered offensive by 90%+ of American Indians.
