A POTUS could ask the military to put down a rebellion movement, but what if they turn on you? Or refuse?

I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing if the military doesn’t get involved, but if they don’t want to be involved, they shouldn’t be commenting about it at all. If they want to stay out of it, then stay out. Shut the hell up.

AFAIK Pres. Trump hasn’t said anything at all about involving the military, apart from a suggestion, that he hasn’t acted on, that they might guard ballots and voting machines.
Unless someone can provide a verifiable quote to the contrary I will assume that these jackasses are bald-faced liars and arrogant poltroons to boot for thinking they can tell the American people what they should or should not think.
That being the case their intentions can be nothing other than malevolent.
FWIW that had nothing whatsoever to do with the election as the date alone verifies. And he would have been right to do so in that case. The leftists themselves claimed to be conducting and insurrection during their months of rioting.
