re: “are crying out for the FBI to violate rights to “solve” this issue.”

Glorious appeal to emotions.

There is no reason WHY they couldn’t have visited him in the months following (the original call by his MOM) to do follow-up interviews and assess his mental state.

NO rights violated. Potentially 8 LIVES saved a year later.

See what I’m saying Vern?

”FBI was powerless to do anything about him even if they were 99% certain he was a problem. “

The FBI probably has lists of thousands who have the potential to be problems. There is no legal mechanism to constrain so many people. Tolerating some of their misbehavior is one cost of being a free people.

Get the situation in perspective, people. The population of the United States is over 331 million people. We don’t need to know about everything bad that happens in faraway communities in this big country every day. And we’re not going to make this world perfect.

Hawkins’ legal purchase argument can only make the situation worse with more excuses entered into background checks to violate the rights of individuals. “Oh, no. She was depressed for a few months 40 years ago from a temporary situation she was in. No firearm for her.”

Let’s not let it go there, folks. Smarten up.

. . . or the eval was done after he purchased the second one he lied on the 4473 form making the second purchase illegal.

My answer to the grabbers is to come back to me AFTER people lying on questions 11-13 are given STIFF penalties:

Greta is also a pretty severe case.

She's got autism, not FASD, IIRC. Not the same sort of disabilities. Her diagnosis was Asperger's syndrome (AS), OCD, and selective mutism. I think she's overcome the selective mutism, but magnified the OCD. Asperger's folks usually have normal to superior intelligence, some sensory issues, and trouble catching social cues. Perseveration is another feature of AS, you could think of it as OCD-lite. I have a son with AS, though that diagnosis is no longer used. They call autism Autism Spectrum Disorder, now, and wad all the variations up under the one diagnosis, since the release of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Version 5. It was released in 2013, but not in universal use for some time afterwards. She was apparently diagnosed in 2015 under the old DSMIV. I spent a good part of my time in the years before that trying to be, among other things, a special education teacher.

None of the gun control measures the Dims have passed or even proposed here would have stopped any of our mass shootings.

But they don't care because the purpose isn't to save lives. Their purpose is 1) they hope the issue will help them win elections and 2) it's yet another opportunity to virtue signal.

I saw an excellent observation in an op ed today.

Back in the Jim Crow area police gave a very low priority to policiing black neighborhoods, focusing their efforts on keeping the white folks safe.

By obsessing over the very few shootings of blacks by white police officers and taking resources away from LE, the so-called liberals are forcing a return to the era when mostly white police didn't try to protect folks living in black neighborhoods. Seems like what's happening in Chicago.

Bingo. And my worry is that there will be another shooting, and another, and another, until they eventually get their legislation through. I hope I’m wrong about that, but I see it as almost inevitable. There will eventually be a shooting bad/big/shocking enough that opposition to Dem resolutions will simply stay quiet.
