Looks like a good place to hide when the zombie apocalypse happens.

The real estate taxes must be astronomical.

The photos do show the kind of place Michael Corleone would own. The whole atmosphere of the place would be too testosterone soaked for your average modern snowflake entertainer, sports figure, or other person with enough money to buy and keep it.

Agreed. Absolutely love it. Mid century modern at its best! Line a time capsule.

Seems like a fun place for a themed retreat. Needs half as much decor and the walls redone in maybe a swiped stucco style. Those walls have heard a lot of dirty words no doubt. He did it his way, until he didn’t.

It was built in 1967. My mom’s home was built in 1970. It is still going strong. And I have friends who live in homes built over 100 years ago.

If they will drop the price to $200,000, I’ll consider it. But it IS in California, so maybe not....

The article makes two mistakes about the location.

It is neither a “Palm Desert” hideaway nor is it “in” Coachella Valley.

I had a tour of the house when it was listed in 2009. (they did not ask for financial references when we asked to look at the property).

The house is in Pinyon Crest, which is part of a larger area called Mountain Center. It is not down in Coachella Valley nor in the Coachella Valley jurisdiction of Palm Desert.

Pinyon Crest is up the mountains to the west of Palm Desert.

The whole Mountain Center area is somewhat remote, not just the eastern end where Pinyon Crest is located.

There are only three two lane roads into the area.

One is a twisting and turning road that climbs up the mountain coming out of Palm Desert. One is a small two lane road that comes down into Mountain Center from the north, from Idyllwild, and the other comes up into Mountain Center from the west from the area of Hemet.

And there is not a ton of retail business up in Mountain Center, in spite of many million dollar (and cheaper) homes up there. I imagine most major shopping is done either going down the mountains back into Palm Desert/Palm Springs area, or going west down into and through the Hemet area, and on into either Redlands, Riverside or San Bernardino.

So, yes, I am sure what Sinatra liked was the seclusion.

But seclusion does come with a cost - isolation.

This is the address and map:

70300 San Lorenzo Road, Pinyon Crest, Mountain Center California

I have been to and through the house.

Yes it is great and secluded location.

The structure is great.

But to me most of the interior is a gut job, both to modernize it (has not been redone on decades) and to totally change the style.

I think THAT, and the remote location, is why it has remained on the market so often and not selling.

Probably an additional million$ at least would have to be put into it.

Nice place but why anyone would want to live in Palm Desert been there 110 degrees only thing to do is house setting with nothing for miles around.

Talk about knowing history. A radio talk show host claimed JFK was banned from the house. Then said it was built in 1967.

My RE friends tell me that if showings drop off and no offers come in, it’s time to lower the price.

Most people now want everything white and industrial looking.

I fit that profile and I'm a Boomer. I prefer my living space to be wide open, uncluttered and with all the walls basically off-white. Except for bathrooms and kitchen, all floors are hardwood with space rugs (no wall to wall carpeting). I don't even use window treatments of any kind, which sort of creeps out my guests. I like the sunshine pouring through. No chandeliers - just recessed lighting and a couple reading lamps. No antique furniture. No clutter at all. I'm not sentimental about material things so only a box or two of mementos that are stashed in a storage closet.

I do find that it really cuts down on the stress.
