Britain paid off their debt for WWI in 2015. We are taking on comparable debt without a war to pay for, at least not yet.

Almost 100 years later. Well at least they are dedicated.

You must have a vibrant economy and smart populous to do it.

I am concerned that Americans are too divided to turn the ship around. After all, “the rich need to pay their fair share” is the mantra that we hear all of the time.

Heck, we all own the debt and until ALL Americans realize this there is little hope. Blaming someone else for your problems will only get you so far and then eventually you will have to face the truth.

But this plays well for politicians and the stupid people who vote for them.

This is what the Dems wanted all along. Republicans always fall for this crap, negotiating in bad faith to save a few billion and then brag about how they stopped the Dems overspending and how conservative they are. Only a fraction of this bill will go to actual infrastructure. The rest is payoffs to various left-wing groups and orgs.

Exactly. I can never figure out how Republicans seem to be hard wired to be stupid suckers. Their behavior about this atrocious "infrastructure bill", most of which funds anything BUT infrastructure, is sickening. They remind me of dogs rolling over to expose their belly, an acknowledgement of inferior position behavior. And a lot of them would opt for the optional peeing themselves while doing so.

Feh!

If future generations want to piss on our graves for not keeping spending under control (and cutting taxes while maintaining or increasing spending is a sick and destructive concept), I do not blame them.
