I still prefer Beijing being a smoldering pile of nuclear ash though. Why that still hasn't happen just pisses me off.
That was China back in the days they were used to hardship, death and suffering. Nowadays thanks to the one child policy and rising prosperity most of them are probably spoiled mama’s boys who aren’t quite as willing to be used as expendable worker/soldier ants for the good of the hive.

You actually imagine that the bulk of Chinese live better today? Best to stop reading the Global Times. Only about 1/3rd live a modern life - all the rest live in the largely unchanged rural countryside on $200 a month, if they are relatively wealthy. And mind you, its not individual wealth, but family wealth where the males are expected to care for their families until they die of disease or old age. There is no welfare state.
China has long ago rid itself of the 1 child policy, moved on to a 2 child and now a 3 child policy. The rising prosperity is mostly among the well connected CCP families, not the ordinary people. You are talking about the culture which was destroyed by Mao and Tienanmen Square. They do what they are told - that’s how it is in China. If a person does not fit the mold created by the CCP, expect to be beaten, jailed, tortured, imprisoned, killed or worse.
Go to China and call the first person you see a “spoiled mama’s boy” ... Chinese hospitals are no fun; as a foreigner (laowhy) you can expect a long wait before they get to you. Bring plenty of cash so you can make brides to get “experts” who will follow the CCP rule book for your case ... if they get your diagnosis wrong its not their fault, sorry.

The rest of your comment about war is what I was trying to point out, had you followed the thread instead of just jumping it and piling on.
China will never be ready for war under the CCP - the cost would be too high - as they are learning with India; much of their ‘war machine’ consists of one-offs, empty shells, junk, unproven tech, not to mention the PLA has no combat experience and runs by a playbook - no deviations allowed. They will bluster and take the cheap shot, if they can get away with it, but a major war is not happening - see northern India where they cannot even win a minor skirmish.
The CCP does not want to nuke the US, rather just kill off 200 million through a genetic bio-weapon (using covid as a data gathering mechanism), then move millions of Han to the US for its clean air, water and soil; they need living room - just look the current population density maps of China. That density was achieved with the 1 child policy; imagine how many more will live there under the new 3 child policy.
You will notice they are surrounded by mostly ‘empty’ countries. But none of them have the advantages of the continental US offers to house the master race of Han Chinese. Heck, they are in the process of taking Western Canada (which borders on the US - for Rio Linders).

China will act in its own self interest whether that means war or not. It's foolish to be Pollyanna about it though and not be prepared for any eventuality. No peace has ever been won through weakness.
I think that you know that nobody here advocates blowing up Three Gorges Dam for the fun of killing a bunch of Chinese but if the Chinese want to play unlimited warfare, everything should be on the table. Unlimited for all. Such an attack would not even be an escalation to a biological weapons attack against the population of the USA. It would be a measured and logical beginning of our response. China needs to know this. That is what made M.A.D. work with the Soviets.

The Chinese people, by in large, hate the CCP. The CCP is the enemy. The people have no day in the matter.
And FWIW, the Chinese people, in general, like Americans and are NOT our enemy. While the CCP is made up of Chinese people, the Chinese people are not the CCP.

You are wrong about that, many here hate and hate all Chinese and call for them all be killed, making no distinction between the Chinese people and the CCP. The Chinese people and the Chinese nation: the “Chinese nation” as you put it, consists or two bodies - the Chinese people and the CCP. They are not the same. To not distinguish, is to tar them all with the same brush which is a form of racism; like saying all blacks are xxxx, and there is no difference between a black that xxxx and one that does not.

MAD does not work with the CCP. They are not interested in signing any treaty, limitation, unless it betters their internal image. And as long as they have the bragging rights internally, what they do externally is irrelevant.
No one said anything about unlimited warfare. Unlike covid, a genetic bio-weapon, to be effective, has to work quickly enough that no response is possible. Look at our devastating response to the Chinese release of covid ... wait, there is none. And so it would go.

China could have been great. China chose poorly.
China is flexing its muscle, but honestly has been getting its ass spanked by its skirmishes in India. If they go nuke, they know they are done for. They have already declared war on the entire world. Get all the warshps from the world together and good luck. Personally I think Taiwan can inflict serious damage on them. They have had 75 years to get ready for what they know is going to happen, which is why China haven't made a move on them yet.
Forget the dam. Ports and flightlines. Much more fun.
If you think that weapons select whether people are members of one party or not, you are deluded. How would you propose that if America was attacked by China, we could possibly only take out the CCP even if that was our preference?
Mad works when there is an assurance of loss of power or loss of life. For China to suffer those kinds of loses-both human and infrastructure, they will certainly lose power too. MAD is not a treaty. MAD stands for mutually assured destruction. You kill us, we kill you. If the CCP thinks that they can win with a biological weapon, they have another thing coming. They die too. There are plenty of subs, loaded with nukes that will still have living crews. Unfortunately for the Chinese, the CCP is speaking for China, that makes China a target if war comes. Rest assured that the US would not start such a war. China would.
