And I agree with pulling out however, the problem is this debacle could have been avoided, at least to a large extent with some planning and coordination wouldn’t you agree?

This whole thing is one big cluster that didn’t have to or need to happen.

Well, Petraeus is right. There were alternatives such as a military assistance command with forward air observers. Minimal risk to ourselves and good practice which would have cost us little.

Now we will be treated as a nation with the contempt we deserve for running away from a bunch of goat humpers who had a hand in the worst attack on Americans since WWII.

Hard to explain just how much I despise David Betrayus. He’s a “hearts and minds” kind of guy and, as best I can figure it out, most Afghans don’t have either.

I think it could have been planned better, and it's terrible policy to leave you allies in the lurch.

However, there was always a good chance that the majority or all the country was going to fall to people we don't like in a very short time. How could we prevent that without staying there indefinitely? Pretending Afghanistan is something it isn't won't work. Hopefully soon the "good guys" will mount some resistance. Maybe they can take back certain areas. But I wouldn't bet any money off it.

I just don’t like Petraeus but I’m not sure he was even talking about this withdrawal when he spoke of “counseled for many years.”

You’re one hundred percent right IMO but I’m not military expert either.

I would think that we’d have gotten all civilians out first, then the non-combat elements of the military with a potent fighting force being the last to leave with serious air cover to see that through.
