“Without electricity, the gasoline pumps are also down.”

You can haul in gasoline in 1-5 gallon containers or tanker trucks. When the military is in the field they don’t build gas stations with underground tanks and pumps requiring line electricity.

If I run out of juice on the highway I’d rather need a two gallon gas container than an electrical connection.

“And if you had the funds to purchase a Tesla, you probably had the foresight to get out of town.”

If you had that kind of foresight you’d have a gas powered vehicle.

“Try to keep up with the 21st century. No one has a magic petrol pump on their roof or in the back yard,,,”

Back in the 20th century some of us had petrol tanks and pumps in the yard. I’ve used them to fuel up tractors and automobiles. They weren’t magic, you had to use muscle power to crank the pump handle.

“...but four 500 watt panels would in an 14 hour day light...”

Is that how they are fueling all the electric rescue boats and wheeled vehicles they are using? They charge them for 14 hours during daylight and use them at night or every other day?

They receive mainly tax credits now. However since you wanted to mention it, Tesla took a loan out when we had the crash back in 09ish. They paid their “bailout” or “subsidy” as you’d call it a decade early and are to this day still profitable b cause they make an excellent product. The other car manufacturers?

“ Tesla’s total subsidy value according to the data is ‌$2,441,582,590 ($2.44 billion), across 109 “awards” — 82 federal grants and tax credits as well as 27 state and local awards.”

“ Ford borrowed $5.937 billion under the ATVM Loan Program. Ford still hasn’t paid that back.
As of today, Ford has had a total of at least $33,489,841,570 ($33.49 billion) in subsidies awarded.”

“Nissan borrowed $1.448 billion under the ATVM Loan Program and still hasn’t paid us back.
Nissan’s total subsidy value is $1,955,199,450 ($1.96 billion).”

“Fisker Automotive borrowed $529 million under the ATVM Loan Program and went bankrupt. We won’t get that money back.”

GM and Chrysler both went into bankruptcy and had to be rescued under a separate program.
GM’s total subsidy value is $50,346,920,000 ($50.35 billion).
Fiat-Chrysler’s total subsidy value is $17,599,200,000 ($17.6 billion).”

All a far cry from Tesla

No. EVs. By being tied to the limited power grid they provide a easily derived pretense for the government to step in an regulate how they are used or charged. A hybrid, by carrying its generator with it, doesn’t.

Never mind that with self driving cars hackers could replace gunmen as hitman.

A whole new way for Democrats to Arkancide folks.

They receive mainly tax credits now.

Providing tax credits to wealthy Americans for buying luxury cars never seemed like a great idea to me - it essentially just expands the manufacturer's profit margin at the taxpayers' expense. Obviously, anyone purchasing one of those cars (or buying stock in the company ;^) will have a different opinion...

I agree with you on that point and I’ll go a little further…any country that has to provide a tax credit making others feel it is wrong to do so is a country who taxes its people far too much anyway but that one is an entirely different conversation
