How many democrats are cringing at this with elections coming soon? But, the GOP has proved to be capable of snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory over and over, so...

He’s talking as if he was still a Senator.

*************

He obviously thinks he’s both president and a senator.

Where does all this “default” talk come from? It’s not true. It’s like saying if you max out your credit card you will go bankrupt. No. It just means you can’t spend any more or rack up more debt.

“Isn’t this is what R’s want, Dems to take full responsibility for ramming through their spending?”

That is my understanding. They have rammed through a bunch of spending through reconciliation. Use reconciliation to raise the debt limit. (Not sure how the Senate parliamentarian will rule.)

Biden can’t change anything relating to Senate rules. Schumer can if all the Democrats stick with him.

You have to take what he says seriously because he has no thoughts. He reads the prompter and that has been written by his handlers.

I don’t think they can do away with the filibuster. Not enough support. But, if they do, they need not worry, the GOP would almost never use that weapon when it’s their turn.

When the Republicans take back the Senate in 2022 they will desperately, desperately want the filibuster back. Once again the will be hoist by their own petard.

There was a funny story one of my Friends told about an Doctor in the area that had Alzheimer’s. He would put on his lab coat, go to the nurses station and write orders for the other patients. He thought he was still working because all hospitals and nursing homes look the same for the most part. He also would take calls at the desk when the nurses were not around answering it as “This is Dr So and So, how can I help you.”

And Manchin has said multiple times he won’t change the filibuster rule.

This Biden threat is about as realistic as Biden threatening his dog to stop biting people.

He’s largely divorced from reality but this may ( or may not?) make him less dangerous in the job than the (ineligible) Harris would be.

Democrats overspend, raise taxes.
Republicans then run on tax cuts.
Republicans win, cut taxes.
Democrats crank up the envy engine, run on tax the rich.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

“Use reconciliation”

I think they only get one more swing with “reconciliation” this year. They think they have 5 trillion reasons not to.

Someone wrote this recently:

“They changed the filibuster to an actual voice filibuster. They can outlast anyone on the Republican side to get the filibuster to end.

“They want a Republican to join them to give them bipartisan cover.”

Doesn’t it take 51 votes to change the senate rules?

Does anyone think Manchin or Sinema will vote to change the rules and eliminate the filibuster?

Sorry, that’s wrong.

This isn’t like your credit card. The USA sets it’s own limit. We’ve already approved the spending and it will be spent and money will be borrowed. We simply have to announce officially that we will make the payments on it. If we don’t, the payments on all our loans will go up because we are saying we can’t pay.

The reason we have to announce that is that we don’t foloow the Constitution and pass an annual budget anymore. We piecemeal our spending and must guarantee the amount of each new piece. If we passed an annual budget all spending and borrowing is approved during that process and we are finished with lenders for the rest of the year.

It seems like once they remove the filibuster, it is removed for everything.

I am not sure they can use reconciliation to raise the debt ceiling but perhaps they can attach it to the $3.5 trillion bill.
