That's a new one on me... For one, the Confederates wouldn't have been flying the US Flag. They did fly a plain black guidon to indicate that no quarter would be given. Similar to pirates hoisting the Jolly Roger. That originates back a LOT further than the 1860's...

Mattis fell out of favor with many for his disagreements with Trump, and I dont think he should have become a political adversary. That doesnt take away from my respect of him when he was still in uniform.

Problem with “national divorce” is the intertwined ownership. Unlike the Civil War (states declining membership in federation) where vast borders clearly delineated sides, this instance is about neighbor vs neighbor, and setting the rules we all live under. This thread is about “your Republican neighbors” - when you call for the arrest of those next door for using your preferred pronouns, they’re not going to go quietly. The path to peace and freedom is leaving others to live as they see fit, not micro-manage them under threat of police action.
