Back in the 70s a copper doing traffic control was hit in the back with a hatchet wielded by an inner city outdoorsman. As the copper went down, he managed to plug the attacker with six. (they carried only wheel guns in those days). He made a full recovery while the assaulter was permanently covered with dirt.
