As an analogy from USSR/Russia in 1990 until now: if the USA experiences a depression/civil war etc, and goes through a period of extreme powerlessness, (our air forces grounded, our navy stuck in port without fuel)....while China grows in relative power....

And China installs puppets in Mexico and Canada, and these "legitimately elected govts" ask for an alliance with China, including "purely defensive" military assistance, you are fine with this? Chinese troops, tanks and missiles in Ontario and Mexico, as long as they are announced as "defensive?"

We are not invading Ukraine. Russia is invading Ukraine. So your analogy to China invading Mexico is inapplicable.

That’s a good point. But what you’re saying is that if he wants to start a war with us, then he already has all the excuse he needs. He can use the fact that Biden called him a killer as an excuse. Or he can use the fact that we sent javelin missiles as an excuse. Or he can use the fact that he thinks we’re Nazis as an excuse. Putin has no shortage of excuses for war if he wants a war. So what it all comes down to is whether we’re going to go hide in the corner in order to avoid angering him. We don’t want to anger him you see.

So as I said before, we should just surrender now to avoid getting into a war with him.

Personally I think the idea of appeasing him is just going to make him more adventurous, as it did Hitler. You’ve got to put your foot down at some point.

Do you think that the Monroe Doctrine says that we can invade any of our neighbors anytime we want, as Russia is doing? No it does not. The Monroe Doctrine says that we will not allow colonial powers to have colonies in the Western Hemisphere. That is not what’s happening in Ukraine. Ukraine is not an American colony. And I might add that by your logic we should feel ourselves free to invade Cuba and Venezuela, and perhaps other nations in Latin America that we consider to be Russian or Chinese allies.

JFK would beg to differ. Ask Khrushchev’s ghost. We blockaded Cuba with USN warships as a prelude to bombing and invasion if the missiles were not removed.

As far as not invading countries in the Americas, you must be joking. Hell, we even carved a brand new country off another when it suited us: Panama, and ran it for most of a century as it suited us. Panama was created under the cannon barrels of USN battleships.

Not to mention our “Special Military Operations” in Mexico [multiple times], Haiti [multiple times], the DomRep, our CIA coups in Guatemala, Chile etc etc.

Your analogies are all completely inapposite. First, we did not put nuclear tipped missiles in Ukraine aimed at Russia. Second, we did not invade and destroy Cuba. We blockaded shipment of missiles to Cuba for a few days. Also, remember that just a few days before the invasion, Putin was saying that the US was lying. He said Russia had no intention of invading. Now we see who was lying. Then when he did invade, he used as an excuse his claim that Ukraine is not a separate country. He said it’s part of Russia. That is the same logic that Hitler used to invade Austria. He also said that Ukraine was mistreating ethnic Russians living there. That is the same excuse Hitler used to invade Czechoslovakia and Poland. This man is a modern day Hitler. I’m surprised you would defend him.
