Ethnicity is not race or genetics. Thise play a minor role.
What creates an ethnicity is a combination of culture, religion, language and history. And those 4 interact with each other.
Take the Punjabis. Genetically speaking the Pakistani Muslim Punjabis, the Indian Sikh Punjabis in Punjhand the Indian Hindu Jat Punjabis in Haryana are the same people.
And, until the 12th century they were the same. But they diverged under religious and then historic conditions and now the languages are diverging.
Or between a person from Limburg, another from Hamburg and another from Brandenburg. Racially similar, but history and religion determined a change in culture and thereby ethnicity.
Because that is a hallmark of Russian attacks on civilian areas. You saw it in Central Europe in the 1944 to 1945 period, in Afghanistan, in Chechnya.

I don’t agree with the anti Russian sentiment in your post. I oppose their regime’s actions in Ukraine, but I don’t hate the Russian people
It’s a cold war mentality that Putin has played on yo make this war an us vs them, rather than the preening to Putin’s ego that it is.
There is a difference between the government and the people. We would not want yo be judged as just Obama and Biden subjects, right?
In pure numbers, no.
However there is pretty adequate proof that a brutalized, badly treated and badly trained rabble of a Russian army has committed atrocities. It may not be the level reported, but it exists.
