Some places even try telling school staff not to carry. Ask around. Over half do. And this is in upper scale neighborhoods with little crime and nice houses. Rights are rights, and the innocent should NEVER be punished with the loss of their rights because of the actions of someone who is a criminal or mentally deranged. 99.99% of guns are owned by people who have never committed a crime with their guns at any point in their lives. Tragic massacres like this make the national news...but the average Chicago shooting by a gang-banger doesn’t, nor does the murder of 30,000 babies a week in abortion clinics. Making policy based on sensational events has NEVER made sense, and nothing has changed about that.
The usual suspects have been bloviating about “common sense gun regulations”, but have been distinctly circumspect about whate, exactly they’re talking about.
They’re mumbling about “universal background checks” (read as a ban on private firearms sales), a ban on “high capacity magazines” (read standard capacity magazines) and other equally nonsensical and vague ideas.
What they would love to propose is a renewed federal ban on “assault weapons”, but this is a problem for them. On the one hand, their hard-core base, which used to uniformly love the idea is now divided. The suburban wine moms and Karens are still all in, but the Democrat party’s militant wing is no longer reliably anti-gun. On the other hand, this issue remains highly motivating to their dedicated opponents: they fear even worse retaliation in November.
Rock and a hard place.

Banning guns because of the actions of a madman is like banning law abiding citizens from owning cars because of the deaths from drunk drivers.
