Historically Americans don’t bow or curtsy or show fealty to so-called royalty, with the Dear Leader being a recent exception. It is always bothered me people seem infatuated with so-called royalty, foreign royalty at that, even while despising nearly everyone of her own leaders. The twisted logic.

Who cares if some people like a monarchy and some are infatuated. It’s their country. Who are we to say what they should have for their government. .It doesn’t seem to be more dishonest than our country, but who knows. It could be.

The pageantry may seem innocent enough, but don’t forget it was the inbred monarchs of Europe who pushed the world into World War One. I would doubt the 20 million dead Europeans and others would think the pageantry and circumstance of today is worth their lives. Thankfully afterward, the Europeans saw this and stripped the royal class of most of their power. Of course, that is not to deny that a fool president, a criminal congress, and a power drunk ruling class will not take us into another devastating war, but I am not going to support them either.

I wouldn’t describe Britain as a “democracy” in the 1600s, more like an elective oligarchy because only those with a substantial amount of property were allowed to vote. This property qualification was substantially reduced throughout the 19th century it wasn’t until 1918 that all adult men were granted the vote (women over 30 were also given the vote) and 1928 when women were given the vote on equal terms. Britain should probably not have been considered to be a real democracy until 1928.

No thanks. We might end up with a president like Biden.

OOPs I meant Margaret....

Anne does look like the Queen's sister, with her dowdy "style." She was such a beautful young girl. Now she cultivates the horsey schoolmarm look. The Queen is more fashionable, in her own way.

Things I’m still curious about...

Was a former head of MI5 seated behind the Harkles at St Paul’s? And if so, why?

And did Markle get caught wearing a wire at the service? If anyone wonders why I wonder, watch the vid from when she left the car til she got to the top of the stairs. What the heck was she doing with the collar of her trenchcoat/dress..?

I agree that Americans should not bow to foreign leaders; but no need to take offense at most of the "fans" of the British royals— they are probably just enjoying the pageantry, the same way we enjoy seeing pix of the Carnival in Rio without going mostly naked in public on Fat Tuesday as they do, or the pageantry of the Saint Patrick's Day parades in Dublin or New York without having to be Catholic.

Others appreciate a connection to their distant past cultural heritage, without wishing to sacrifice their American citizenship for a second. They are not looking to the Royals to be their political leaders; at the same time, we all can appreciate that UK is a NATO ally on whom we hope to count if push comes to shove again around the Atlantic regions.

As for despising nearly all of our leaders, name one on the top levels since Reagan who hasn't earned it. I'll wait.
