There is a Commission that says who is allowed to have nukes. They consider Taiwan to be part of China
Wrong. More scare tactics. Tariffs are good regardless and we need them now. You are applying failed economic policy 20th century to the 21st century.
Tariffs are for protecting an American industry. There’s nobody making these chips in the US today. For that reason, tariffs right now would just increase prices for Americans without any concomitant benefit.
But the factories really are being built. Once we have a US-based chip industry, that’s different.
All the more reason for them. So keep raising them until the economics works in the favor of making them here. THAT IS THE POINT. Tariffs also raise revenue and decrease the budget deficit. WIN-WIN. Listen, i've herd all of your BS gloBULList economic screwed up radical off shoring theory before. NO.OTHER.COUNTRY.DOES.WHAT.THE USA.DID.BECAUSE.THEIR.ECONOMISTS.ARE.NOT.THIS.STUPID.
These are cruise missiles, not ballistic missiles like North Korea tests, so it is easy to test them without detection.
.
1. We should never have gotten ourselves in this position, but here we are.
2. Chip factories are actually being built right now.
3. It must be economically feasible already or it wouldn’t be happening. (Plus Intel, etc., don’t want to be stuck if China invades Taiwan or otherwise pressures the Taiwanese.)
4. Taiwan is a democracy and our ally, so it’s not the same as offshoring to China. (We should still establish a chip industry here, but it’s not disastrous to keep buying from Taiwan during the transition period.)
5. We need chips on an ongoing basis, both for our defense and for our economy. Until the new factories are running, there is no alternative. (Yes, this is ridiculous, but it’s the way it is.)
6. Since there’s currently no alternative source for these chips, putting on tariffs or the like right now wouldn’t change where we purchase them from; it would just increase the price Americans pay, and the extra money would go right into government coffers as taxes (and probably from there to Ukraine or something).
7. We probably have enough to time to build the factories before China invades Taiwan, but we certainly shouldn’t dither.
