A perhaps more relevant question is: “how many real wars have they fought in the last 7 decades?”
The answer is: zero. And they don’t much participate in coalition wars or “police actions” like Western countries either. Which means there probably isn’t a living combat veteran in the entire Chinese army.
They invaded north Vietnam a while back, and they are constantly skirmishing with India. There should be living veterans of that, although a minuscule percentage of the Chinese population.
Communism never worked as an economic system until they got a sucker to buy stuff produced by their slave labor.

Well, those “skirmishes” with India usually involved more people dying from the harsh conditions of the Himalayas than actual combat. And the invasion of Vietnam lasted one month.

I agree. I was just being nitpicky. “I lost my toes in the Himalayas” is not great institutional knowledge to pass along.
