The problem with static mounted solar panels(as you know) is that they do not produce much power in the late afternoon or evening. That is unless you have a sun tracking array mounted on a swiveling pole. Peak production is during the middle of the day for roof mounted arrays.

Peak DEMAND is late afternoon/early evening when people get home from work.

This is the same type of issue with wind mills. It tends to be windy during the day. Not as much at night. Therefore, peak production from wind mills comes when primarily during the day. Not as much at night.

This is why all electric grids need to have electric production available to turn on when these other sources stop producing.

I'm fortunate in that I just happened to have a metal roof installed a decade ago when it was time to replace my shingle roof anyway. I was pleasantly surprised that for about 15% more cost (the difference between a metal roof and shingle roof) I could, at least ostensibly, not have to worry about replacing my roof every 10 or so years.

So when I decided to go solar and I got solar panels with a 25-year warranty, I was already set up at least in regard to not having to replace the roof underneath the panels. That's one of many variables to consider before doing solar. But if all the variables work in your favor it can free you from being controlled too much by Dims' energy policies.

This is why I am loathe to sell any of my bicycles, even though we have five of them in a household of three people.

About the power buyback plans you mentioned.....my electric authority as far back as a couple of years ago places severe restrictions on selling solar power back to them.

Unbelievable that we’re being lectured to about going solar but the insurance industry and power companies are refusing to cooperate.

California LIKES IT up their Anal Exit Passageway.
Same Brown-outs, Blackouts 20 years ago. They will NEVER learn.

Once they have enough electric cars, they’ll no longer have to ‘request’ people not charge, during power shortages.

Like all democrats, they’d rather die than elect sane republican government.

Actually, what is eventually coming is a ban on electric vehicle sales with the logical excuse there is not enough grid capacity for everyone to charge an EV.

That will take place after gas and diesel vehicles are off the roads. Then, YOU WILL HAVE NO VEHICLE !

This will result in no individual freedom to travel and will be combined with digital money which the government can use to cut off your purchasing anytime with the flip of a switch.

Control energy and you control each soul.

You are not authorized to travel, even leave your home unless you walk or ride a bike.

So, so funny. New style lockdown, everyone with electric-only cars shut down by the government.

"Oh really? and if your household has 2 or 3 cars or in a condo or apartment complex?"

I agree with you 100% that having more people get EV's and charging at night will create a new "peak hours" event, but at night instead of the afternoon.

I'm just saying that the officials' requesting EV owners to charge at night is a nothingburger because EV owners are already doing that to avoid the late afternoon peak hours rate. It'd be like worrying about the mayor of New Orleans asking her citizens to drink alcohol -- they're already doing it as much as they can anyway.
