It matters little if we have 100 times more nuclear weapons capacity than them. Even the firecracker size nukes in Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused horrible deaths among civilians. It is best to not provoke desperate leaders.

What kind of person is so fearful they would rather die than face the aftermath of a war.

In my opinion Dmitri Medvedev is a civilized gentleman who is right now campaigning to be Vlad Putin’s successor. This is how you do it in Russia! LOL. Good luck Dmitri.

[You see children, this is why you don’t F’ with countries that have nukes.]

The premise of the article is that Democrats fear Putin will unleash the nuclear sword. Trump doesn’t have that fear, which is why he threatened to bomb Moscow if Putin invaded Ukraine.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/trump-heard-telling-golfer-john-daly-hed-hit-moscow-if-putin-caused-trouble/ar-AAUDbhx

Putin is not going to unleash nuclear weapons for the same reason that Stalin didn’t – not because they are great guys (they sure as hell ain’t) but because they understand that the consequences for Russia (and specifically for their own asses which they love very much) would not be good.

Putin misunderestimated the West as being weak and decadent and did not expect the ferocious sanctions that have been unleashed or the abundant supply of Western weapons to Ukraine – he thought that the whole world would react like Germany (because Germans are the Westerners he knows best). I don’t think he is going to make that mistake again and assume that he can use nuclear weapons and not have their usage answered. He understands now that there is a dialectic – for each Russian action there is an equal and opposite Western reaction. Taking vengeance on your enemies by DROPPING nuclear weapons on them is great fun – it’s what happens next that is the problem.

A 90% dead Russia with most of its ethnic Russian population wiped out is gonna consist of Buryats, Dagestanis, Chechens, Tatars and any number of what the Russians call blacks (i.e. non-ethnic Russians). Even if Putin survives a nuclear holocaust, you can expect these people to turn him and his family, along with his thousand best friends, into grizzly food*. That’s why Putin won’t use nukes - he’d like to remain top dog, which he can do once he exits the money pit that is the special military operation in Ukraine. Can’t focus on killing your internal enemies if you’re trying to win an external war.

* Heck, if famine follows, as it probably will, due to the catastrophic interruption of industrial-scale agriculture, chili con Putin might become a main course, but only for special occasions when non-vegetarian fare is available. Salt Putin, Putin jerky - the variations are endless. The depleted inhabitants of the Russian empire will take to calling the other white meat Putin (not to be confused with poutine, which is fries and gravy).

Now that Ukraine is going to survive, we need to reach out to Putin. Let bygones be bygones. Drop the sanctions so Putin can send gas to Europe again. Russian will pull out troops from Ukraine. But let him keep Crimea. Allow him too "save face".

“And they can deliver them, hypersonic speed, from over the south pole...from which we have no defense.”

So, would you rather just surrender to a bully talking smack? You would FOREVER be under their thumb, subject to their wishes. You’d be a slave. Me? I don’t believe in surrender. I’m not wired that way; it’s not in my DNA.

In any event, if Russia launches, Russia ceases to exist.

Desperate Russian rulers have been threatening us with their nuclear doomsday fantasy for over 60 years. They are corrupt, mouthy tyrants in third world terrorist countries.

You can tell a neocon by how much he wants you to see how necessary it is to take it to the “enemy” and whip up the peanut gallery by wrapping the war in the flag as they send your family members off to die while they get rich and more powerful and you get a body bag wrapped in a flag.

Didn’t Putin just utter: “You have to live in order to die for something!”??

Good post.

Trump wanted to establish a good relationship with Putin but they prevented it. Now we’re in a hell of a mess with the most inept people in our history in charge.

What's the matter Dmitry? Things not going well in Ukraine? Is your pal Vlad feeling poorly? Do the oligarchs and the siloviki want peace? Is a safe and prosperous escape to foreign exile looking more and more unlikely for you? Loose talk about starting Armageddon will not cure any of those issues but may accelerate the timing of unhappy events on the domestic front.

"How many nukes Russia has and how many ICBM's to deliver them to North America?"

If they try to launch? Not very many at all. The West can see everything that they're doing. They're slow, and their equipment is junk.

If they want to try, now is the best time. The longer they wait, the more faulty parts they'll be using.

They may be corrupt and drunk. But they have a space program. And all they need is a bunch of nukes. I wouldn't try to bluff them on this.

“… Low morale and exhaustion: Problems of Russian occupiers on the territory of Ukraine…”
**************************************************************

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7hTx-go410

“ Video message to the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vladimir Oleksandrovich Zelensky: we are servicemen of the 2nd platoon of the 2nd company of the 59th separate rifle battalion filmed this video in memory of the dead brothers and also with the aim of informing the Ukrainian society about the situation that has developed in the 53rd separate brigade to which we were seconded by chance or even malicious intent.

In the event that we go missing, we ask that all the blame be placed on the command of the 53rd Motorized Brigade and the 59th OSB: the command of the 53rd brigade, having no full-fledged technical means for conducting combat operations, uses seconded rifle companies as cannon fodder, giving orders to equip positions in the areas already targeted to the enemy (This is to us, that is). At the same time, leaving the wounded to the mercy of fate and refusing to take out the bodies of the dead. Motivating this by the fact that it is impossible to evacuate without the loss of their combat units. Knowing the place of death, they assign the status of “missing” and those who were forced to retreat under fire from enemy artillery are credited with criminal unauthorized abandonment of positions. The deceased commander of the 3rd platoon of the 2nd company of the 59th OSB, senior lieutenant Sergey Boby, as well as his subordinates, are charged with entering positions while intoxicated, which is an absolute lie and slander.

We, the 2nd platoon of the 2nd company, express our distrust of the command of the 53rd brigade and the 59th separate rifle battalion. At the same time, we do not refuse combat orders, but not as part of the 53rd OMB and 59th OSB. Since they do not have the correct planning of combat orders, defense and technical support, and transmit false information about the dead and wounded.
