I don’t like, need or trust Michelle Obama the person, but this painting is not that bad. It’s far better than that first one, seemingly done with No.2 pencil on light blue stationary paper.
This new portrait has captured her natural ‘Hang-Dog-Mug-Wump’ expression very well.
That’s just Michelle; always with a hint of dissatisfaction and disgust showing in her face.
Her left cheek looks a little bit flat with all the whitened impasto tones. The hands and the gown are well rendered. This is a more professional piece.
