yep. I have a subcontractor for hubs biz and DH himself is classified as a subcontractor. The biz is in my name due to his ex still being on the payroll.

There has definitely been a lot of abuse in this area for YEARS. Make that DECADES.
But the “reasonable compensation” rules in the S-corporation area is also a big problem. Of course high-earning types use that as a ruse/dodge; so it will take a while for them to make this full of “equity”. LOL

Particularly among our nation’s most vulnerable...I’d say just the opposite. It’s just another type of business plan. Nothing wrong with it. Leave people alone. They’re working and paying their bills.

This is a standard rat play, going way back. Decades ago, when I first went into business as a software engineering consultant I was simply a sole proprietor. I hanged my shingle and went to work. It was simple and straight forward. I bought a liability insurance policy and put a lawyer on retainer for contracts. I was able to do my own taxes because it was very simple as a sole proprietor. That worked fine for a couple of years … until businesses did not want to do business with me because the IRS “might” consider me as an employee. I had to incorporate to get business. That’s more complicated, requires more work and a CPA, which costs more money.
People do not need government protecting them in this case. Focus on real crime. People should resent the attitude that government thinks they are guilty, so they need yet another safeguard.
