Sister to Brother
Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. 1 Timothy 5:1–2
When a leader asked if I’d speak with her privately, I found Karen in the retreat center counseling room red-eyed and wet-cheeked. Forty-two years old, Karen longed to be married, and a man was currently showing interest in her. But this man was her boss—and he already had a wife.
With a brother who cruelly teased her and a father devoid of affection, Karen discovered early that she was susceptible to men’s advances. A renewal of faith had given her new boundaries to live by, but her longing remained, and this glimpse of a love she couldn’t have was a torment.
After talking, Karen and I bowed our heads. And in a raw and powerful prayer, Karen confessed her temptation, declared her boss off-limits, handed her longing to God, and left the room feeling lighter.
That day, I realized the brilliance of Paul’s advice to treat each other as brothers and sisters in the faith (1 Timothy 5:1–2). How we see people determines how we interact with them, and in a world quick to objectify and sexualize, viewing the opposite sex as family helps us treat them with care and propriety. Healthy brothers and sisters don’t abuse or seduce each other.
Having only known men who demeaned, used, or ignored her, Karen needed one she could talk with sister-to-brother. The beauty of the gospel is it provides just that—giving us new siblings to help us face life’s problems. — Sheridan Voysey
How can seeing others as your brothers and sisters help you treat them with “absolute purity” (1 Timothy 5:2)? How do you think Paul’s advice helps both sexes to flourish?
Dear Father, help me to treat others with respect and purity.

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Well...we made it through hump day.
My work laptop died and I couldn’t get the one they gave me to connect to my monitors at home...a missing part. So I had to go into office Monday and Tuesday. Horror show...last night I finally got everything to work and today was back to working at home. *sigh*
Hope you week is going well and on schedule.

Howdy, Kathy.
Hump Day and happy day being able to work from home again. WOOHOO! It was a good day to stay in, that’s for sure, with that dumping of snow on the streets.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...hope you and Tippy are transitioning well to the colder weather. Warm coats at the ready?
I woke up to our first snow!! Several inches, but light and fluffy...easily shoveled off the deck.

It’s been pretty warm...and rainy. However, Tippy is growing a beautiful winter coat. She’ll be really warm this winter! :-)

KEY KATHY,
Slow night, ‘eh? The elections and winter are both bearing down on us. Winter is a bother for about half the year, but the elections are always with us it seems. I know that this is not the place for politics, but I actually caught one of the debates last night. I watched, I listened, I thought about it, and came away from it all knowing what hallucinating must feel like.
How’s your new computer? Still a door stop? What happens in Alaska for Halloween? Kids go out with baskets and GET FROSTBITE?
Over half a century ago I was walking with a friend of mine on Halloween night in Upstate NY. I was wearing a Jean Jacket and he was wearing one of those wool “GREAT COATS” that was all the rage in those days. He asks me, “Aren’t you you cold?”
“Aren’t I cold? It’s 30* out here, I’m wearing this dumb denim jacket, no hat, no gloves. What do you think? You think I’m cold?”
“Yeah. I think you’re cold.”
“Brilliant! I’m cold.”
“Why don’t say anything about it?”
“Like what?”
“I dunno. Something.”
“OK. Can I have your coat?”
“No!”
“Can you think of anything better for me to say?”
“No.”
“Then why don’t you just shut up and keep walking.”
Happened just that way. All these years under my belt, and I still don’t understand most people I’ve ever met. :-)

Well, that’s a bit of good news!
I don’t think I could be a soldier these days...too, many electronics. In my day we had just mastered the art of tying the rocks to the “Y” in the branch, which was a big improvement in both rock and stick technology!...of course, we still threw rocks...for the range!

Good evening, radu...guess what? WE GOT REAL SNOW overnight! Close to 3” at my house...shoveled off in just minutes.
As sunny as it was today, the camera shots from Lake Hood should have been spectacular.
How is your rain situation? Is the guy across the way finished harvesting and causing you breathing problem?

Good evening, Janey...((HUGS))...have you been on lots of flights lately? Is the smoke clearing up at home?
We had our first snow. It’s beautiful to look at.

Too funny, the coat issue.
Late last night I finally got the new work laptop hooked up to my monitors and most of my programs set back up. Having a “new” computer is the pits. You have to reinstall everything and can’t find the stuff you need to work.
My issue for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday turned out to be a needed adapter. My docking station for the laptop only has ONE needed port for ONE monitor. I need TWO, one for each monitor. The IT guy that came into the office yesterday and listened CAREFULLY while I explained the problem I saw. He looked at the monitors and docking station there, and then he knew. On his way out to go to Best Buy to get me an adapter, he passed the box of stuff that IT had brought in last week. Guess what he found? The very adapter I needed. Then he worked on the laptop to make if accept the double authentication we now need to login. I sat at the old work station, followed EVERY cord and followed the same when I got home. VOILA! I got everything up and running. I’m afraid to turn it off in case I can’t get back on. I will try that Thursday night so I can call IT Friday morning if I need help.
I haven’t had time to follow any news all week, and I’m trying to read some on FR this evening. I did start the OZ debate thread...oh my. But I also just saw a “headline” that half of the mail in ballots are already turned in...before the debate (as planned).
But, my new work laptop is up and running. I’m still trying to find all my FR stuff, but I’m making progress. You don’t know what’s missing until you want it.
Are you ready for winter? I had to shovel off my deck today.

Hey there, Kathy.
There was certainly a good amount of snow that fell yesterday and overnight. Not bad for a first real snowfall. Not too much but enough to make everything pretty.
Has the cold weather brought the ducks back for their daily meals?
The sunshine was filtered by clouds a lot of the day at Lake Hood but it broke through to shine brightly every now and then. And yes, the view was spectacular when it did, imho.
We only got a half inch of rain yesterday but that's better than nothing. Today was just gloomy and cold. We MIGHT get a shower or two Sunday and Monday but it won't amount to much. We need a LOT more.
When I headed out for errands this afternoon, I looked across the field across the road and I do believe it's done. YAY!!!!! He'd still be out there if he hadn't enlisted our guy, Dusty's, help. His combine is way too small and Dusty has a large one and he knocked it out before the rain came in last evening. WHEW!!!! SO glad that's over with.

We always remember and are thankful for their sacrifices.
How are things down your way? Gloomy, breezy, and brisk here today. Not a pleasant day for running errands. brrrrr
