Bingo! Congress is just a protection racket with the FBI and military to enforce their Caponeish rackets.
What is that?
I don't drink milk at all...
Those data collection cards they ply you with for discounts are fun to mess with. There is no real concern over user integrity, so I have several under all kinds of spurious names and addresses. Kaiser Wilhelm to James Hoffa.
James Carville? Is that you?
Its a stupid political show.
Grocery retailers have razor-thin margins
Meanwhile cartels and monopolies exist in all parts of the US economic landscape, such as big pharma, media and tech - over which politicians say absolutely NOTHING.
“Pure shakedown. They want their cut.”
Exactly.
Is Safeway/Albertsons unionized?
Here in the midwest Kroger is all union people and you get the typical “attitude” from many of them.
I could care less about the ‘loyalty cards’ I have a bunch of them with random info.
but if I want to buy a 6 pack of beer they insist on scanning my ID.
http://mantascode.com/us-drivers-license-barcode-attributes-by-state/
linked to your other info and credit or debit card this is ID theft waiting to happen, and what if when they sell this info and it is eventually purchased by Ins Companies or Nigerian or .Indian Scammers or political opponents ?
There is a reason they are demanding this info and it all has to do with money, information and control.
I have had the store clerks tell me it does not store info and only looks at your DOB. They have no clue and are talking out a rectal orifice.
I tell them that they certainly don’t know that.
more important I cannot know that.
Despite living in the hell hole that is LA, we do have the advantage of having a huge number of choices for buying groceries. Everything from fully stocked gas station stores to MegaWalmarts and everything in between. We even have a bunch of stores coming up from Mexico that have great deals on produce.
I can see a merger in our area as being a non-event except for the store employees who will most likely get screwed over for the sake of bonuses for the suits.
Anti-trust is a thing. Why move towards a grocery quasi-monopoly?
Personally, I like competition.
Data Analytics is a many billion dollar industry, for example
And Ralph's is owned by Kroeger.
Harris Teeter is owned by Kroger.
“..Because there is a ton of money involved, and the crooks want to make sure some of that flows their way....”
^THIS^
Ding! Ding! Ding!
We have a winner of the chicken dinner!!
I don’t know about the others, but Safeway is already part of Albertson’s. Fred Meyer, the other large chain here, is already part of Kroger. We don’t have the others mentioned.
During covid Fred Meyer enjoyed their new found power over it’s customers. Now they want to extend their control by requiring all purchasers of alcohol to show ID. They aren’t happy with just a club membership for sales but now want you to connect digitally with them.
I have started buying from the couple of Mom & Pop stores even though their prices are higher and have limited selection.
the supermarket unions!!
They did? Post the quote.
I agree. I HATE mega companies with a monopoly (apple-google/ cough).
After that I saw the truth of ours being a form of Communist
distribution centers run by insider elites with government insiders cooperating if they got their cut. Now our supply chain problems have brought us closer to the pure Communist style ...Twice my local Kroger totally ran out of milk

In Soviet grocery stores empty shelves were the main item and they were not for sale.
