Chris ought to know. He’s not one either.

Fatso does everything to get his nose into things. He is a totally irrelevant bastard.

Manchin should never have won reelection in ‘18. He lucked out against Morrisey, but it was good for only 49% of the vote. Morrisey won reelection to AG in a landslide and the carpetbagger claim won’t cut it anymore. Besides, Mooney literally only moved to the opposite side of the Potomac, one county over from his MD home, so that’s far from the traditional definition of moving hundreds of miles away from a different part of the country to an alien area to exploit it (like the Northerners coming into the South, post-1865).

Justice’s health alone should preclude him from running. He should be retiring to spend his golden years with his family, however many or few he has left. Mooney can serve three terms in the Senate and still won’t be as old as Justice is now. That’s a very strong argument.

You’re somewhat right about the carpetbagger label not being as potent. However, for Mooney that really only the case for the eastern panhandle (They’re already familiar with him!) and the northern part of the state (Not Fairmont & Farmington area - Manchin the favorite son!!). The carpetbagger label will hurt him in the southern part of the state, particularly in the coal fields. Amazingly enough for a fairly crooked coal baron Justice has strength in that region. You will hear things like “Yeah, he’s a crook but he saved the Greenbrier!”. WV politics are screwy and often don’t make sense.

Probably better for Mooney to declare his intentions now to give him enough time to introduce himself to the rest of the state (as it is now, he’ll be representing half of it starting in January). That 49% in 2018 will be Manchin’s high water mark. A ficus plant could be the GOP nominee in 2024 and win. For Manchin, the jig is finally up.

Mooney announced last week (maybe the week before!).

I want to see Manchin go. However, he is a very crafty politician and understands WV well. You can’t count him out!

After Manchin goes, I want to see Capito retired!
I vote against her every primary.

With Trump at the top of the ticket in ‘24, and he won every county in the state, there’s no way Manchin can win. Last I heard, his approval ratings were in the toilet.

Yes, Capito is too left-wing (though as long as Manchin is there, he makes her look like a sane Conservative).
