It's my contention that one need read two books, to understand the fecal storm that is about to hit us: one's an historical book, the other a novel.

The nonfiction book? The Forgotten Man, by Amity Shlaes, a biography of the New Deal. Its history is being replayed for us, day by day.

The novel: Atlas Shrugged, of course. The blind eye turned to the border is a corollary to diverting Taggart Transcontinental from Minnesota wheat to Arizona for grapefruit, because that's what a bureaucrat wanted.
