Yeah, spooky. We could make it fine with bikes if we had to do so. We sit in the middle of a lot of farms, and cattle aren’t far away.

I’m keeping my old Frontier just in case. The F150 and wife’s Honda have computers. We don’t have to drive very many miles these days but we like day-road trips with hikes and photo ops.

Eventually everything will be so modern that none of it will work, lol.

” I have been told, not verified mind you, that there are still systems running COBOL in the govt....:)”

Probably. But what is really scary is they are probably the ones that launch the nukes.

Most government agencies have dozens of different computer systems of all different vintages in a hilarious chaotic patchwork.

This is partially the result of the appropriations system which occasionally gives money for upgrades and then a year or two later takes that money away.

One result is that different computer systems do not talk to each other or there are glitches when they do.

Adding to the fun is affirmative action or “equity” contracts means that the vendor skills are often mediocre. In the early days of affirmative action this was overcome by having a “front” minority owner with old white guy subcontractors doing the actual work. These days the .gov contract enforcement rules makes this more difficult—and the results are chaotic and unpredictable.

Ayn Rand called it—this ship is going down—slowly and gradually at first—and then at some point it will be too obvious to ignore.

Just like covid shots being being for our health and safety, the push for EVs is supposed to be about being more “earth friendly”.........both narratives are total bullshit.....both are about nothing less than controlling the masses.

The problem is people don’t believe the government would ever do that to us......by the time they wake up......it’ll be way too late.

Agreed. Location is becoming more important by the day. Cities are going Mad Max and govt control in urban areas is easy.

Very true. I was approached to work on an upgrade project. When I met the principals at their office I was told “Oh we have met our hiring quota...as soon as they saw the grey hair and the race”. Nothing really overt but I certainly wouldn’t work for an outfit like that.

Last I heard about said project was they were on their 3rd team of people and the project was nowhere near completion...:) I happen to know some folks who work at the site of the project and they have some great stories about the sh** that goes on. It’s this type thing that effects the end users in a very negative way and they can’t do their jobs. But the mgmt looks good because they saved all this money...NOT.

I hate to say it, but I’m afraid you’re right.

I heard they are blaming this on draconian budget cuts. 😂

I think we’re living it possibly for real now

On at least a couple of fronts

Spiritually and possibly militarily by proxy so far

As an IT person these types of system failures fascinate me, so I rummaged around the FAA website a bit.

In reading the PDFs one thing that struck me was the vagueness of where the NOTAM database actually resides. There are references to the “NOTAM System computer” (singular) or “NS computer” (singular) and that’s it.

The database is probably small by modern standards, so it might actually be a single computer, perhaps periodically backed up to a second one. I wonder if the main computer died and the backup didn’t work, possibly because nobody tested the recovery procedure for a long time.

Given all the other “coincidences” we have seen in recent months .... I have a strong suspicion that something else is going on here. What could that something else, be?
Republican majority in Congress...
Biden found to be in possession of Top Secret documents ...
Friday the 13th coming in two days .... (LOL)
Elon Musk dumping more Twitter revelations every other day ...
USA is going to run out of money again (unless Congress acts) ...
Janet Yellen is going to stay in that Secretary of the Treasury job a while longer ...
Russia is destroying Ukraine. Or the other way around if you trust Saint Zelensky ...
Airspace shutdown is a very big deal. Maybe Southwest Airlines is not so evil and incompetent as previously reported?
