I’d say that it’s time to call our own Reps and urge them to vote “NAY” on this one.

I won’t be doing it as it was a waste of my time last week. He voted for McCarthy every time.

He reminds me of my former congressman, Adam Kinzinger.
No, no, no, enough of bending over and dropping trou for Zelenskyy and co.!
It’s time we stopped kowtowing to him and giving him everything he wants.
I feel for the people of Ukraine, but there needs to be a thorough accounting of where all of our money is going.

Democrats AND Republicans have a lot to answer for, and at the top of that list is the Biden family.

The Zelensky frenzy has become borderline insanity. I’ve never seen anything like it.

How about a 6” plastic bobblehead mounted on a yardstick? Sounds like art to me.

I’d say it’s closer to the Polish-Soviet War, where Poland regained its independence more or less* bloodlessly from the Russian empire, thanks to the Treaty of Versailles, then had to fight for its survival once Lenin consolidated his hold over the rest of the Russian empire. However, the Revolutionary War is more relatable to Joe Lunchbucket.

* Poles fought in WWI for the Austrian, German and Russian empires, whence Polish forces gained both command and rank and file experience. The butcher’s bill of 450K Polish dead was the price Poland paid for gaining the experience that would prove vital in its war to prevent re-annexation by Russia.

The role of WWI in getting Poland ready for the big game was mirrored in Russia’s continued probes against Ukraine in the Donbass starting in 2014, after the annexation of Crimea. From a completely unprepared nation in 2014, tens of thousands of Ukrainian reservists rotated through the Donbass front, creating the core of the troops that stopped the Russians around Kiev and Kharkov. Equipment that had moldered since Ukraine’s independence on the assumption that neither NATO nor Russia presented a threat was refurbished and brought back to operational readiness under Poroshenko’s tenure.

[I have a soft spot for Joe Wilson, because he said “You lie!” when no one else would.

But Zelensky is not exactly Lafayette.]

Lafayette was a commander in what was arguably the #1 or #2 power in the world. For him to get involved in the American Revolution was no big deal - just another day at work in the long-running series of clashes spanning centuries between France and perfidious Albion. France had copious resources to fight the British, and had allocated massive amounts of money to fund the Patriots and the French Navy in its operations against the Royal Navy.

Zelensky stands at the head of what was thought to be a weak country ready for incorporation into the Russian empire. It was expected on all sides that Russian victory was a fait accompli within days, which is why foreign diplomatic missions were withdrawn from Ukraine. The Russians had their soldiers bring dress uniforms instead of other things they might need, such as more ammunition.

What makes Zelensky’s story impressive is that he knew all this and his nation more or less agreed with the consensus international assessment - that Russia was pushing on an open door. And yet he stayed on instead of flying out with suitcases of cash as Ashraf Ghani did.

What compounds impressive is that he has not just stalemated Russia - he’s pushed Russia back. The international consensus was that the best case for Ukraine was stalemate - Russia keeps its initial gains, but fighting continues at a low level much as it did over the Donbass, with no real progress on both sides. Zelensky has achieved what neither Stepan Bandera nor Ivan Mazepa managed. That is why he is lionized not just abroad, but in Ukraine, where his poll numbers remain sky high.
