May God have mercy on all the victims.
The two drivers have been identified in news reports and social media was not scrubbed for at least the woman.
Do the black females who hold the orange signs make the same $$$ as the guys who actually do the work?
We have to drive through on large zone each day, but I notice that most drivers do slow down (some only do so though when they get within sight of the work crew) we are a rural area, and so we know to leave a bit early because of the work zone, but folks from out of state are the ones most aggressive or impatient I should say. For the most part- I’m sure even some locals get all bent out of shape because they have to drive slower for 30 seconds or so.
This is awful.
Except it seems this was just an accident between lane-changers. With that open access right there, there was little that could be done. It is not about “speed” and negligence about the work zone.
The way people drive now days cars should come stock with a white cane with a red tip.
You are right about the endless work on the Beltway.
They’ve been moving along the median for years now - I think last year they finished the Liberty Rd bridge area which is just north of this. Before that they were holed up south of the 795 ramps. So now they’re by Security Blvd.
I had a low speed collision in a parking lot, both of us turning, me into a lane, and them out of a space. Now I think they backed into me, they think I turned into them, and I suspect big blind A and C pillars had something to do with it.
I have taken to bobbing my head back and forth like a bird on turns but it isn’t natural and I still feel blocked.
I grew up in Maryland near DC and lived there for 50+ years. My daily commute was the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, a much more sedate drive.
I’ve been on the Capital Beltway (495) quite a few times, traffic is so heavy it’s difficult to speed and get away from the cops.
I-95 and the Baltimore Beltway (695) are crazy. I was on 95 one time, in a car that would go 160mph. Those M-Fs are crazy. Never again.
Apparently you haven’t been listening to Mayor Pete. All the good construction jobs in black and brown neighborhoods (of which Baltimore certainly is) go to white workers.
Does the back up camera see directly.behind only, or does it look for cars approaching from.the sides?
I wonder if that was a factor in my recent accident, if the other driver was relying on a back up camera without a side warning.
It even picks up pedestrians and abandoned shopping carts.
they were driving too fast for the conditions.
That’s terrible. So sad for the families.
Texting.
This was more than careless
The driver had to actually enter between walls into a cluttered construction site
Horrible tragedy on hard working folks
An intentional act looks possible to me
Just shut it on blame the victim
Yesterday the weather was beautiful. I was even thinking people working outdoors were finally getting a break.
Look at the photos
This work zone was walled
