No civilized society in the history of this planet allows mentally ill Santanist trans freaks to organize & kill others.

No civilized nation would allow this.

The headline for the article is a lie. He did not shrug off the shooting.

I had a cousin that actually went and got a degree in journalism, back in those days you were proficient in shorthand, and typing. I wonder how many dropout flaky journalists we would have if shorthand was still a requirement, and a journalism degree was required by law.

Oops can’t have it by law that’s stretching it a little bit too far into nazi-land.

You make an excellent explanation of systematic risk and its application to baseline societal violence. I would add, however, that there are ways of affecting systematic market risk. In the same way, altering pharmacological prescription policies, for example, might have a large effect in reducing these incidents.

I will definitely go check out your article from last year.

In a nutshell, I believe that school shootings have increased in large part due to the measure of fame (or infamy) that is gained by the instigators of them.

By and large, the school shooters end up being kids (or young adults) who are socially awkward, even socially shunned or bullied by their peers. This is their way of lashing out. Getting back at their bullies in some way while knowing (even in death) that they will be remembered and be infamous due to their action, which they know will garner national media attention.

Social media also feeds into this. It used to be that bullied or socially shunned kids could just switch schools or move out of town and more or less get a fresh start in life. Not so in today's world. Your social media profile follows you wherever you go. These kids feel that their lives are ruined forever. I don't think older people who grew up pre-internet realize just how important a role social media plays in the younger generations. If you or I get banned from Free Republic, we shrug and move on to other things. But for these kids, getting "cancelled" or mocked on social media is like a death sentence.

Then you have video games, most of which are violent. I truly believe these are harmful for kid as it desensitizes them to violence. They are also very addictive, especially the online ones, where lack of participation can hurt the scores of you or your "team". There are many Freepers who are gamers themselves and they will defend the playing of video games - which may or may not be a harmless diversionary pleasure for adults. But I think they are inherently harmful to kids, not only because of the violence but because of their addictive nature. They become so addicted to video games that not only does their education suffer but their social interaction with real people also suffers, which accelerates their social isolation, leading to them plan out and execute their own plans for violence.

If a building needs an armed guard at the front door, then a child has no business being there without parental supervision. The only exception I might make is for a facility with health-related sanitary protocols like a hospital where it is impractical to allow parents to be with a child at all times.

Uvalde School shooting.

“The school resource officer — who was not at Robb Elementary at the time”

“The gunman was outside the school for 12 minutes and firing at the school from the outside before ever entering Robb Elementary, the new timeline provided by police Thursday suggests.

He said it took one hour for more armed officers and a tactical team to get to the scene and engage the suspect. A US Border Patrol Agent shot and killed the gunman upon his arrival at the scene.

The gunman ultimately killed 19 students and two teachers in the time he barricaded himself inside a fourth-grade classroom.”

Parkland, Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School

“Broward Sheriff’s deputy school resource officer Scot Peterson, who was assigned to the school that day, would later be accused of retreating during the shooting while victims were still under attack.”

Arming “qualified” teachers and staff would help, but there is NO WAY to totally prevent people from being people.

Its like trying to stop the moon from rising. Lunacy.

Of course the MSM tried to twist his comments into a "gotcha" moment.

Par for the course. It's the second oldest profession - the Serpent started it by twisting the truth with Eve (the Serpent may be the first journalist, btw...).

Rep Burchett should be given an award for his honesty, accurate observations, and IDGAF attitude about the press.

The best way to deal with the press, is to understand them. That why enemedia articles are worth posting.

Next step...either ignore them, or ridicule and mock them. They need supply. If one feels compelled to speak to them, start by saying "that's a terrible wig. You're going bald, it's ok. It worked for Sinbad O'Conner. However, the last time I saw a mouth like yours, it had a hook in it."

They'll spend the next three days snorting coke, acting unconcerned but secretly obsessing about how you treated them. Meanwhile, you advance liberty by going to the range with your kids and bringing some friends.

We need to end government schools and establish private schools and tax write offs for education expenses.

Teachers don’t actually need to be armed, but the public should know that teachers have the right to be armed. A potential attacker would treat that situation totally different than a gun-free zone.

````````````````````````````````````````````````````
My daughter, a high school teacher in Missouri, carries a gun concealed on her person, to all her classes. It’s not authorized but if found out, she says she had rather be fired than dead or any of her students or co workers dead.
I like to think she inherited that common sense from her old man. She’s not a youngin either, she will be 50 next month and has been carefully and and responsibly carrying for 25 years. Needless to say, the old man is proud of her.
Thank you for your response. I agree, life is not without systemic risk. The key for me is to insure that the reward slightly exceeds the risk and NOT to accept unwarranted risk. If I have $10,000,000 and my life expectancy is 20 more years, my lifestyle does not require that I engage the risks of “the market”. So I do not and I am satisfied.
There is also an cost of over reacting to systemic risk. I could build a 30 foot concrete wall around my house with guards at every corner to minimize the risk of being shot at home, but that too would be unwarranted. Life is a balance.
On another topic, we homeschooled our kids for 13 years. For us it was the way to go. All of our kids are successful beyond our dreams. And they are nice people too.
Cheers.
You're welcome, and thank YOU for your response.
There is also an cost of over reacting to systemic risk.
This is the typical response to a mass shooting. Leftists always clamor for more gun confiscation, erm, control when there is a high-profile shooting.
The little DoodleBobs thrived in homeschool. It was perhaps THE best parenting move Mrs DB and I made.
