The propaganda is working. There was a day when no one wanted to admit to being gay. A very few were, but they didn’t publicly exclaim it.
There was a popular boy (not handsome by any means, but nice and well liked) in my H.S. class, no one knew he was gay until he came home to be cared for by his sister because he had AIDS when it was still a death sentence.

I did not know how good I had it in the 80’s when the dominant “fads” were simple things like Valley Girl speak, leg warmers, preppie clothing, and hair metal.
