In theory you could fashion a form of guerilla warfare by attaching small explosive devices to inexpensive consumer grade drones. I don’t know what’s the real story here but 10,000 drones lost each month seems like a lot so it’s either not true, or, these are cheap Chinese made toy drones. It’s clearly not the kind of Reaper Drones we used on the battlefields in the middle east.
... over 300 per day? I call bull-shiite.
Think Russia is kicking Ukraine’s butt in fact..
Not believing this.
All this Ukraine reporting is CIA/MI6 disinfo.
It’s all lies.... except stories about the Ukes winning. Those are all true. Honest! They only lie about everything else. But those are God’s truth. Cross our hearts.
“These are cheap Chinese made toy drones. It’s clearly not the kind of Reaper Drones we used on the battlefields in the middle east.”
Ukraine’s early on had remarkable success with cheap drones. It scares me that our 1 million dollar drones might not survives a good defensive counter. I say cheap and thousands not expensive and one.
You mean with a range of less than a mile? Those drones? Can’t carry even one hand grenade.
All of this gets sillier and sillier. 10,000 drones. Right!
+1
A swarm of cheap drones could do a lot of damage. They could be armed with low grade bombs for examples and swarmed into tanks and artillery positions. Or like a flock of birds they could get sucked into a jet engine or take out the propellers of other low flying drone. They could also be used to distract infantry, like a swarm of locusts. Probably other uses I can’t think of as I’m only an armchair tactician.
Also of course, surveillance of enemy positions.
Those drones must be not too expensive. They may as well be describing folded paper planes.
Of course, Uncle Joe; he of the Potato-Head, is happily footing much of that bill anyway.
They were seeing UFOs over there last week so yeah.......it’s pretty much just plain old lunacy.
“Also of course, surveillance of enemy positions.”
That’s what generates the numbers. Each platoon on patrol goes out with two or three cheap drones.
Lots of them get lost, but if you lose a $50 drone to find and destroy a $2 million tank it is money well spent.
It’s reasonable. This sort of drone has become a consumable. Consider them ammo.
The typical such drone in Ukraine is the DJI Mavic. There are many similar. They are in the $2000-$3000 class.
So Ukraine may be spending $20,000,000 - 30M a month on drones. That seems like a large sum, but a very tiny expense out of the whole, which is running billions a month. Wars aren’t cheap.
Yep, from the first day, "Kiev will fall in a few days".
Bwahahahahahaha - good one!
They can carry, typically, 40mm grenades - the types fired by US or ex-Soviet grenade launchers. Sometimes several.
Some somewhat larger ones have been rigged to carry RPG warheads. These are used as “kamikaze” munitions. There are lots of videos.
That is about 14 per hour, 24/7.
10,000 drones.
Oh, I get it.
Some beehives were breached.
