The Congress, House or Senate, has no power over the Supreme Court of the United States.
Democrats define separation of powers as us them.

My first thought, and to keep the Supreme Court in the news.
Also a secondary effect that only true activists would be willing to accept the relatively low pay (for DC) that comes with the job, if they wind up having to pay for everything in their lives.
It’s possibly an election ploy. They will try to say that Republicans support justices getting freebies while the leftist judges take in millions selling books etc.
