Eff you both, Bush & Bidet!
My supply of incandescent bulbs will last me for many years.

I understand that "specialty bulbs" such as refrigerator lights are not covered under the ban. It applies primarily to bulbs you need for reading and other modern civilization activities. Then again, perhaps it's worth the elevated level of inconvenience to PROTECT THE PLANET from human beings (i.e., virtue signalling; and there's a lot of that going around these days!)

Well, before the lights go out I'd better finish up my phrase search of the U.S. Constitution to at least have a legal reference for where "incandescent lightbulbs" are specifically included in the enumerated powers of the federal government ... likely "incandescent lightbulbs" are tacitly covered in the ever-growing "penumbra" of "promote the general welfare," a serious concern which the Founders warned of. Cheers!

Replacement halogen bulbs for auto headlights would have to be exempted. There are (or at least were until very recently) no replacement-for-incandescent-bulbs LED bulbs approved by the DOT for on-road headlight use. Yes, people mis-apply LED replacements for, say H11 bulbs, but the LEDs can’t yet give the sharp cutoff of the top of the beam and overall proper pattern that the nearly “point source” halogens can. If you get blinded by what seems to be a conventional headlight, there’s a good chance some idiot put in a LED replacement of a halogen bulb. That should only be done for off road lights.

Note that new car dedicated LED bulbs are fine and can give VERY good patterns / cutoff when properly designed. But, they don’t use the reflectors designed for halogen bulbs.

Overall, though, this ban by the Biden Admin., to eliminate incandescent & halogen bulbs, is not about safety, it is just one more example of their arrogant, top down style. And I say that as a user of MANY LED lights and bulbs.

I don’t like the cold light ..: I usually have a few pink pink bulbs to soften up the room. Light bulbs should be a choice.

The issue with car headlamps and LED’s is the cost. Unlike home use where LED’s are now very cost effective, spending $1500 on a LED headlamp is ridiculous.

ILLEGAL, they actually passed a law to make a lightbulb ILLEGAL. But get a pass for drugs, squatting, rioting, shoplifting etc. And I suppose what ever stock is left was sent to landfill OR maybe to central location to be sent to china, who knows? 😡😡😡 Some more public warning that this was coming would have been nice- I can’t find any anywhere. Pretty soon they’ll be telling you when you can piss and when you can take a crap

That’s very common, and I’ve had some do it in weeks or months, not years. Often the “flashers” soon fail entirely. GENERALLY the better known brand names hold up — even Wally World’s have been reasonably reliable for me. But, others don’t. Usually it’s caused by insufficient heat sinking — sometimes the solder joints to the LED elements themselves fail.

No. But I switched to all LEDs about two years ago. It’s stunning how long they last. I remember the old bulbs used to burn out much faster then these LEDs definitely.

Not just cars. Motorcycles too. It turns out that switching from incandescent to LED requires some modification to the wiring and power delivery to the lamps. The standard car tail lights depend on the current draw of the incandescent bulbs to load the blinker device. When a filament burns out, the typical behavior is to flash at twice the rate. The current draw from an LED substitute won't provide that behavior. I looked into LED for my Harley Fat Bob. It's not just a "bulb" swap. It is the entire housing and lens systems to properly focus the LED light emitter to make a proper "throw" in front of the bike. Headlight modulators are designed to modulate the current drive to an incandescent filament. LEDs modulate using pulse width modulation (PWM) with varying duty cycles to control the brightness. It is not a trivial swap. I suspect people who have a headlamp burn out my find their vehicles idled until they can afford a replacement (assuming said replacement even exists).

[An effort to phase out less efficient bulbs was initiated by former President George W. Bush, whose Energy Independence and Security Act in 2007 called for household light bulbs to have “about 25% greater efficiency,” though it did not outright ban incandescent bulbs, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.]

Thanks George! Awesome job in your 2nd term in office!

For energy saving reasons I spent that last number of years replacing every lightbulb, as needed, with LED bulbs. The expenses were worth it in energy savings. My house is rated every mongh by the utility company and it always ranks not just above average (lower electric usaage) but better than the “most efficient”; and I have some bulns, like porch lights, on 24/7 and some on all nite on timers. It also did not hurt that the refrigerator, dishwasher and washing machine were also replaced within the last ten years.

The decision was made because the compact fluorescent bulb manufacturers bought off some congressmen. Just like the low-flow toilets they had seen an area where common practice was wasteful, developed a “better” system, found that it didn’t sell - because it was too expensive an too unreliable - and then went to government to force people to buy it.

And then got sideswiped by LEDs, which truly were a better system.

“…help consumers save on their energy bills…”

What would we do without the government helping us save money on our energy bills? After all, they are the smart ones, and we are just the unwashed, ignorant masses. 😡

Electric hot water heaters also eat energy.

Article 666 of the Constitution states that the document expires in 2021—from that point forward .gov can do whatever it wants.

:-(

Yup. The cheap Home Depot LED’s i bought (I think they’re called Eco-Smart) have a high failure rate, only last about two years, and about 1 in 4 flicker. I’m having better luck with GE LED’s and other slightly more expensive brands

“Those silly screw tail leds don’t last like they promised.”

I started replacing with LEDs a few years ago. All going strong.
