So? How will that save any energy at all? The car is a closed system. It generates its own electricity. The difference in gasoline usage of incandescent versus LEDs is negligible at worst.
The new lights cause me to get an immediate headache as they are usually set at maximum brightness. The blue tint just makes it worse.
“Try finding a bulb for a heat lamp that’s not incandescent.”
My sis and her ex burned down their house using an incandescent bulb to keep a puppy warm.
Much safer was to provide heat.
“Electric hot water heaters also eat energy.”
My hot water heater is run on natural gas and does not even have a “pilot light”.
I don't think automotive applications are included in the new rules.
Also not included are specialty bulbs such as incandescent bulbs for ovens.
Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for General Service Lamps
AGENCY:
Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Department of Energy.
ACTION:
Notice of proposed rulemaking and announcement of public meeting.
SUMMARY:
The Energy Policy and Conservation Act, as amended (EPCA), directs the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to initiate two rulemaking cycles for general service lamps (GSLs) that, among other requirements, determine whether standards in effect for GSLs should be amended. EPCA also requires DOE to periodically determine whether more-stringent, standards would be technologically feasible and economically justified, and would result in significant energy savings. In this notice of proposed rulemaking (NOPR), DOE proposes amended standards for GSLs pursuant to its statutory authority in EPCA, and also announces a webinar to receive comments on its proposal and associated analyses and results.
“LED light quality sucks PERIOD.”
I bet you are using LED light as you post!
My son bumped a guard rail on a freeway offramp covered in ice. It set off his air bags. The cost to replace the air bags exceeded the current Blue book. The car was "totaled" by typical insurance adjuster standards. The same scenario could play out with a burned out incandescent headlamp. No $15 replacement bulb. A full $1500 LED upgrade. Nope! Totaled.
Where in the constitution is the authority for all these filthy diktats?
Barbara Boxer, former Wall St. investor, pushed the ban as a senator. Right after the bill passed, the CFL industry began producing and selling big time. I always wondered how much the former investor made by gobbling up CFL stock.
I don’t think we’ve had a free country in decades.
good point
all these newfangled non-Edison bulbs throw off the human eye color charts. ask any photographer to e plain what i mean.
i have bought enough Edison light bulbs to last a few years at least. Im 71 so i dont need all those newfangled bulbs, that rape your wallet, too.
I also have an all-LED home, except for the lights on my aquarium and lizard tanks. The fish have a fluorescent bulb and the lizards need incandescent bulbs to generate warmth. Just received a box of 85 T10 frosted 25w bulbs yesterday, which I ordered after reading about the incandescent ban coming HERE. The green idiots seem to have forgotten about lizards, chicks, puppies, and other tender organisms’s need for warmth.
No Forbes- Here is what we need to know. Does this include heat lamps this time around!
From The Hitch Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy :
For years, the fabulously beautiful planet of Bethselamin increased its booming tourist industry without any worries at all.
Alas, as is often the case, this was an act of utter stupidity, as it led to a colossal cumulative erosion problem.
Of course, what else could one expect with ten billion tourists per annum?
Thus today the net balance between the amount you eat and the amount you excrete while on the planet is surgically removed from your body weight when you leave; so every time you go to the lavatory there, it is vitally important to get a receipt.
“I have some bulns, like porch lights, on 24/7 and some on all nite on timers.”
LEDs are now available with their own dusk to dawn light sensors.
“having better luck with GE LED’s and other slightly more expensive brands”
FEIT quality is great. SAlso sold in COSTCO.
(Not mine, but just like it)
