I haven’t taught in 10 years but we always started back on day after Labor Day. Depending on snow days we usually got out around Flag Day (June 14th).

No snow days here so we generally ended in early June. I graduated high school on my grandmother’s birthday, June 4th. But yeah it was always the same, watch the Jerry Lewis Telethon, go back to school. When the schools started having traffic in August I was very confused.

No AC in my elementary school, located in one of the hotter areas of California. A couple of things: Schools are now starting in early/mid August, where we used to start the second week of September. This means kids in schools during summer heat waves. Also, back in the day, we did have a day or two along the way where the Principal concluded it was too damned hot, and canceled school. No big deal. Most days were managable, with teachers getting to work a little early to open up the rooms for some cool morning air. We’d start the day with doors an windows open. We seem to have become a nation of nincompoops who create their own problems, then whine about it. How embarrassing.

So, all students have ac at home just not at school? Yeh,right. Here’s a solution: how about we have teachers teaching them online! Yep, that’s the ticket!

Yes, I never went to an air conditioned school. No one of my generation did. And our thinking was far better and more clear than those who attended air conditioned schools—witness the nutcases the schools are turning out today, not to mention their teachers.

I went to grade school in GITMO. No buildings down there had AC.

Of course the “hot” classes which are airconditioned— couldn’t possibly have had MAINTENANCE on the systems to cool properly— oh no, not that. And of course, keeping the UNION leftist teacher’s narrative (from that dyke head of the US union, who kept schools closed for the non-event covid- so the teacher activists could work the Electoral Fraud squad. Seriously— an army of leftist incompetent “edumacators” for any ANY demonrat machine pol). The narrative quotes some unknown study showing that the HEAT selectively affects the learning of blacks and latinos-— the “target” audience of victims for the coming elections.

So- we should put these in the supercold rooms so they can “learn” better the first few weeks of summer you started schools early. What about the COLD coming— the next 200 year mini-ice age hmmmm. Will the schools have the MOST efficient heat there is— boiler steam powered radiators— so hot they run you out of the building? Naww. leave em off so they won’t get just as HOT as in Summer. Freeze their a@@es off— see how many die from that. Far more than from heat... this is proven in real statistics.

Same here. And I went to Catholic school. We wore uniforms, and there were no “summer” uniforms then.

Or the problem could be starting school earlier and earlier in the hottest month of the year. Maybe go back to school starting after Labor day.

We always got off for Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday unless we had a heavy snow season. I remember one year we didn’t have school on any Monday in Feb. Back to back weekends of 18 and 20 inches of snow. Not that much for some regions I know, but for South Jersey that’s quite a lot.

I really don’t know why they moved the beginning of the school year. Day after Labor Day, ie the day after the end of summer vacation season, was perfect. Mid August, the dog days of summer, is just dumb.

One possibility is school systems are trying to make up for lost school days due to Covid. The midwestern town I grew up in currently has school all year long.

SAME HERE

Went to one room grade school.

Water brought in every day in 10 gallon milk can.

2 Outhouses behind school building

Merry Go Round for recess

WOULD NOT TRADE THAT EDUCATION FOR ANYTHING TODAY.
