It’s the media. They believe what they see is real. We had a speaker at our church from the South Pacific a few years back. He talked as if 1950’s movie America was a point of reference. I had to tell a business associate that slasher movies weren’t real after he was reacted in horror that I took a cross country trip on back roads. He was from east Asia.
Americans do this too. It seems to be a human failing.

Funny how solving the problem by tightening our immigration policy doesn’t even get mentioned. It’s just taken as a given that the “asylum seekers” (apparently the new euphemism for illegal immigrants) will keep pouring in. All that gets discussed is how to get more funding to build more shelters. Doing something about root causes never enters into the conversation.
