Live version of “He Went to Paris” from this past February.

“But he don’t care what most people say
Through 86 years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he’ll smile then he’ll say
Jimmy, some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic
But I had a good life all the way”

Deeply saddened, I saw him in concert four times.

I was never a big Buffett fan buy certainly liked “Fins”

That said, “He Went To Paris” personally connects with me and has a very special place in my heart.

My favorite version is his acoustic solo “concert” at the American Library in Paris - about 1 hour in length. 1080HD quality.

“He Went To Paris” is the final song and begins at 57:00 minutes

I was a fan for a few months in the 1978, Son of a son was played in every barracks room on every monster stereo continuously for months... I liked Jerry Jeff too until I saw him blotto’d on stage... waste of good money right there.

I was more into David Bromberg, Tom Waites, Professor Longhair, Leon Redbone, Leo Kottke... and of course old Jazz, big band and 50’s/60’s Jazz guitar stuff. Jimmy was fun music down at the Husky club or the Ptarmargin club, when the beer was flowin’ and squids and jarheads started “dancing” haha!

He lived a pretty hard life during his younger years, I guess, so he did OK to make 76.

I saw him in Anchorage on the ‘80s. Really good show.

“some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic

That line is one of my favorites. Good song overall. Sad

The 70s was the pinnacle of the singer-songwriter...and Tom Waits was THE best.

His album “Small Change” is a a masterpiece.

“Small Change” also featured a young aspiring actress, Cassandra Peterson, on the cover who later created the iconic character “Elvira”.

I’ve seen him at least a dozen times going back to the mid 80s. I loved his music and could not care less about his politics. His music was not political and he never preached at you from the stage like so many do.

Someone once called him a “one man walking spring break” and his music brought you back to those days before “grown up” realities and pressures set it.

RIP Jimmy but your music and the feelings it produced will live on. Now who will be the next to carry the torch?

Horrible news

He was well loved here in Cincinnati,

My late dad had a copy of his “Feeding Frenzy” live album from 1990 in his car when I cleaned it out after he passed.

I’ll be playing it today

Love “One Particular Harbor’ and “Fins”

I loved his music.

It must be said though he was a strong and determined adherent of the left.

He campaigned hard for all of them from Clinton on up.

For a few odd reasons he became the sound track of my life for a year in 1996. He was on my car and house stereo constantly and also on the boat. I think he sure did what he wanted to do as an entertainer. RIP

Mid to late ‘70s. Used to take road trips and hit 3 or 4 concerts up and down the east coast each summer. Pregaming in the parking lot was always a great time. He put out the concert album You Had to Be There and then he got really big and ticket prices, t-shirts, etc... started soaring. Concerts were more spread out and larger venues. With a couple notable exceptions, by the ‘90s, my Buffett concerts were then relegated to picking up his latest album and a case of Corona and spending the evening on the deck.

Never look back, this is my plan
Run my pony in the sand
Somewhere, somewhere...
