On the scale of GDP, the union now collectively outweighs the reigning economic hegemon, the United States.

I love this BRICS math - if we assume that Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa actually agree on stuff and coordinate policy and whatnot then BRICS might actually be important. I guess it's too bad these countries don't trust one another, are strategic rivals and have more important fish to fry.

Brics bank strives to reduce reliance on the dollar

The development bank set up by the Brics nations plans to begin lending in the South African and Brazilian currencies as part of a plan to reduce reliance on the dollar and promote a more multipolar international financial system, according to its president.

“We expect to lend between $8bn-$10bn this year,” Rousseff told the Financial Times in an interview. “Our aim is to reach about 30 per cent of everything we lend . . . in local currency.”

She said the NDB would issue debt in rand for lending in South Africa and do “the same thing in Brazil with the real. We’re going to try to either do a currency swap or issue debt. And also in rupees.” The bank already lends in renminbi.

Kind of like a couple of the countries in the G-7?

Yep. Everyone is wrong except you.

And your posts are like a teenager, filled with sarcasm and continued dismissiveness of the fact that this country, the US, is about to lose dominance in the world.

Thanks primarily to Putin.

I say bring it. And I hope we survive. But at least we can hopefully someday reach a place where Americans matter again.
I am so very tired of being a military empire.
I am so thankful that the world minus the west is working so hard and successfully to end it.

I'm sure it's just around the corner! Good luck guys!

Very impressive. In other words, a tiny fraction of what Navy Federal Credit Union will lend out in the same period. This is so tiny it's a rounding error of a press release of a joke.

Yep. Everyone is wrong except you.

I think your mistake is that you conflate online trolls fueled by Russian and Chinese propaganda with "everyone."

continued dismissiveness of the fact that this country, the US, is about to lose dominance in the world.

The worst bet in history has been by those who bet against the United States of America. In this case, "BRICS" is a profoundly unserious organization unworthy of serious commentary. Something it shares in common with your other posts.

The BRICS countries have made significant contributions to global poverty alleviation. Continued BRICS growth is critical for poverty reduction and decreasing international disparities. Through poverty alleviation and unwavering efforts to bridge inequities, BRICS has recently emerged as the voice of developing countries, or the global South, and has played an essential role in defending the rights of the developing countries of the world.

Brics will, imo, herald an incoming first turning.
And get us the neck out of this miserable fourth turning.

The Financial Times is British.

I think your mistake is in not seeking help for your delusional disorder.

The Financial Times is British.

Yes and there's nothing wrong with the article. It accurately describes the tiny scale of the development bank as well as its struggles to do any business at all not in US dollars, which is comical since that's the only purpose of the bank.

I think your mistake is in not seeking help for your delusional disorder.

Thanks for your concern. :-)

The French in 2003 with Iraq comes to mind
Brexit
Trudeau’s BS’ery when Trump was POTUS
Germany and France’s meddling in Italian Politics when they wanted bailouts

Please don’t pretend that because two countries might have a serious dispute on say, Tibet, that they cannot agree on trade policy, investments in each other, and joint ventures. The world don’t work like that. Eating is not an optional activity for humans. Power plays are.

Actually, it would be a very smart move for them, because they have a common enemy, the US and Europe, who won’t let them ride rough shod over their neighboring countries. It’s to be expected that evil dictators will meet and ally themselves together, whether their adversaries are headed by Nevil Chamberlain or Winston Churchill, and especially if by Nevil.

Weakness is a provocation.
