Nitrogen is an inert gas, just displaces oxygen. Just like going to sleep. Eventually the body/brain starve from lack of oxygen. Seems humane enough, but it could take an hour or more to declare someone clinically dead. People have been revived in rare cases (like falling into freezing waters) hours after not having an oxygen supply.

Maybe after the convict falls asleep we just ...

I do believe some horrendous criminals do “deserve” to die and I do think cpaital punishment is not unconstitutional.

But in spite of the high cost, and the extreme nature of life imprisonment without the chance of every getting parole, I do think it is the better course, leaving the horror of someone’s crimes to God’s ultimate judgement while we keep the person permantely removed from society.

This has not always been my position. Maybe I am just “getting old”.

Did Kenneth Eugene Smith, who already survived a botched execution, get another last meal? If so, lucky stiff.

This is the most humane way of putting people to death who deserve it under the law.

Alabama Has a Horrible New Way of Killing People on Death Row...neither Alabama nor any other state has ever tried to kill people this way.

But nitrogen has tried to kill people this way and has succeeded many times. Because most of the air we breathe is nitrogen, the body has no warning system in place to tell us that there is too much of it. No odor, no feeling of suffocation, no nothing. The condemned (or an accidental victim) just passes out and dies.

Now it is true, that the condemned does know that he’s about to die and the accident victim has no clue, but the condemned prisoner always has that knowledge when he approaches the ‘chair’, the chamber, the gallows or the gurney.

"Experiment" -- what a load of crap. Lots of pilots and some passengers have passed out and died from anoxia (see "Payne Steward").
Hypoxia is a potentially deadly condition that can occur in aviation (or in Alabama). Hypoxia can occur during flight at high altitudes and can affect pilots and passengers alike. There are four types of hypoxia, each with its own unique cause. Hypoxic Hypoxia occurs when a lack of oxygen is available to the body. This can happen when there is a decrease in the partial pressure of oxygen at high altitudes.

The signs and symptoms of hypoxia can vary from person to person, but some common ones include the following:

Many people’s first symptom is a feeling of euphoria that gives them a false sense of security.
So the bastard will be sent off in a euphoric state -- funny how the article does not mention that. It would be far better for him to face a firing squad and soil his skivvies.

Is it more or less horrible than ruining people’s lives because of their political beliefs, holding them without due process and denyibg them fair trials in kangaroo court then sentencing them to years in prison for tresspassing? Because the federal government has been in that business recently.

Ok, I’m not getting something here. Sadly, a number of times, due to terminal illness or old age (losing their back legs) I had several of my dogs euthanized. Prior to the fatal injection, they were given a sedative (by injection). The process was peaceful of them and for me and my husband. Why is this so difficult when it comes to humans? I just don’t get it.

If the idea of execution is to serve as a deterrent to make other, potential, criminals to stop and think before they do something stupid, why the attempt to make the execution “more comfy”? After all, they’re going to be dead in a few minutes anyway. If you really want to deter someone, make the penalty as horrific as possible...make it a teachable moment that is going to give people pause.

Gender of defendants on death row
See also: List of women on death row in the United States
Male: 2,281 (97.85%)
Female: 50 (2.15%)[1]
Comparatively, 50.8% of the U.S. population is female, and 49.2% is male (USCB 2018).

************************************************************

Here’s a way to handle capital murder sentencing going forward:

Ship all such prisoners to a South Sea Island. Currently there are 2,331 of them with 50 of them being female.

Leave tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers etc

Fly over once a month and drop food and meds.

Some would try escaping and sharks would get them. Some of the rest would starve due to not being willing to work in vegetable gardens.

Others would be killed fighting over the 50 women. Some of the women would be killed fighting over the remaining women.

Billions would be saved on prisons and prison guards. Apply that to the national debt.

The easiest of execution methods to go by.

To improve the experience, maybe they can include the scent of baking cookies.
