How was McCarthy the Democrats’ patsy? he point-blank refused to negotiate with them.

Great! That would be interesting if it played out that way. But do you think that the solid majority of the GOP caucus that backs McCarthy will reward the kings-killers with a pick more to their liking?

Scalise seems to me to have the best shot of pulling them together.

“Agreed. Talk about tyranny of the minority.”

Huh, what we have now is a tyranny of the majority! The majority of Republicans are destroying this country in the guise of sheep. The minority is right!

The Republican caucus in the House was unable to produce 218 votes for ANY budget resolution.

So Gaetz apparently thinks that a caucus that can’t produce 218 votes for ANYTHING is going to win a government shutdown debate with a unified democrat caucus in the House, a unified democrat majority in the Senate, a democrat president, and a party-lining media establishment. Right.

I have a tendency to support playing hardball on the budget, although our track record on “winning” the shutdown wars is not very encouraging.

But the opening bid for playing hardball is having a Republican proposal to put on the table. That means getting 218 Republican votes for SOMETHING.

exactly - certain people are burning down the House with no plan - and little grasp of the reality of the difficulty of governing with a wisp of a majority. bad things can happen because R’s rarely outwit D’s. and that’s easy to do when hotheads go off the deep end.

Talk about tyranny of the minority.

You have it backwards.

Tyranny is a Speaker McCarthy who'd rather pass broad CR's giving us trillions in debt, instead of negotiating with the so-called minority, who probably really isn't the minority. Many instead are likely afraid of retribution from McCarthy.

Tyrannical uniparty RINO's retaliate against their Republican opposition all the time.

Some examples are Liz Harris in the AZ State House, Colton more in the GA State House, Paxton in TX, using lawfare and the 14th amendment against Trump, and I believe McCarthy is already working on removing Gaetz from the Republican caucus.

That's real tyranny.

McCarthy is the tyrant and the GOPe is in full support of it.

Hard to say what he would do in leadership, but it's time to hire a new manager.

Trump supported McCarthy when he could’ve put his influence behind a better candidate. Although it would be interesting to have Trump as SOH, he’s totally clueless about the legislative process (as are most of us). If you like seeing him get played by the Deep State, you’ll love how the intricacies of arcane and hidden House rules would be used to foil any attempt he’d make to get work done.

Trump is wrong when he says that Biden will be blamed for the shutdown. The Republicans in the House will be blamed; the media will drum that everyone’s heads continuously. He hasn’t learned anything on that point yet.

Yeah so for 3-4 week’s the country watches the GOP flail around trying to elect a new Speaker...who then come in and has to do pretty much the same thing the old Speaker did since Conservative Inc doesn’t control enough votes to pass anything on their own

McCarthy doesn't have to do the "same thing".

McCarthy could negotiate a better deal. It takes the House the Senate and the president to shutdown. None of the three have full control. You know all that right?

He's a twofer, he does what the Dems want and the Dems can blame him for everything bad as majority leader. Yes, he's good for them.

That’s certainly possible. But it’s lot of speculation.

Gaetz is certainly within his “rights” so to speak to bring up this motion. If he fails, I will make a prediction that he will be tossed out of the conference or lose at least one committee assignment.

We shall see!

He’s not a twink. He certainly loves the media limelight.
