True enough. There are purity tests here on Free Republic. Odds are there will be something wrong with whoever ends up as Speaker, based on the purity criteria.
Nonsense. Scalise was majority leader at same time as McCarthy was Speaker but they weren't at all close.

That's true from the standpoint of passing laws. But the Republicans controlling the House and deciding who is Speaker can have tons of impact. For example, with investigations into Biden bribery (even if an impeachment would be overturned in the Senate, make Biden sweat a while from the process).
But how long would that remain true if he takes on the position of speaker?
There is an actual list which MUST BE submitted prior to the seat becoming vacant. I saw it yesterday. I’ll find it. I think there were 5 names.
I suppose he is the best judge of that. Unlike Alzheimer's, judgement shouldn't be jeopardized.
